Jumbo portions of food have been all-the-rage in Thailand for the past couple of years, so we thought it’d be important to hop on the trend and treat ourselves to some mega size steak orders at the Saphan Mai Branch of Steak Lung Yik.

We ordered the restaurant’s most popular dish with the highest value, the Super Jumbo Steak Platter, which cost ฿399 (~USD13.28). The dish came with 4 different sizzling steaks: peppered pork steak, peppered chicken steak, spicy chicken fillet, and a junior fish steak. Additionally, Steak Lung Yik’s signature dish includes a pork burger with a charcoal bun. It’s impressive that all of these items fit on one platter, as there was enough food to make a mukbang.

Fish & chips, salad, and fried onions were among the side dishes that came with the order, added the extra tangy and crispness to the sauces.

What excited us was that the Super Jumbo Steak platter was topped with french fries smeared with cheese sauce. Steak Lung Yik also seems to cater to steak and cheese lovers alike: the restaurant offers unlimited refills for the cheese and chili sauces that come with the order.

It was full of different flavours that clashed, but also complemented with each other. All the steaks had their level of peppery spiciness and the cheese provided an extra creamy texture that tied all the tangs together.

As most Thai steak joints often serve soft fries, we were expecting soggy chips that were drenched in cheese. To our pleasant surprise, Steak Lung Yik’s frites were quite crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The cheese reminded me of Mcdonald’s cheese, but a little thicker.

A meal fit for 8

Munching down solo isn’t as much fun, and the jumbo portions are almost impossible to finish alone – so, come with your gang of 8. As a steak lover, I can assure you that the steaks, fries and basically everything here still will satisfy your taste buds and your wallet.
