Emergency decree extended in Thai provinces

As part of a fight for an independent Islamic state, the Thai provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat have been embroiled in the South Thailand insurgency, which has been ongoing since the early 2000s

In the past, there have been cases of related bombings and attacks across other Thai provinces from Hua Hin to Phuket, which mostly has targeted tourist hotspots.

In order to take precaution against future attacks, the Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, who chaired the Emergency Situation Administration Committee (ESAC) announced on the 14th December 2020 to extend the State of Emergency decree.

The decree has been enforced across Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat provinces from 20th December 2020 until further notice.

Although this might sound disheartening for those looking to visit the southern region, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy travelling within these provinces.

Always double-check and keep up with further updates to know when and where it’s safe for you to go around.
