Burglars mistake cat collar for real gold

There are many kinds of burglars in Thailand. In this particular story, some who realise the error of their ways and return the stolen belongings to their rightful owners.

Recently, two burglars stole a “golden” cat collar during a robbery, but later had it returned with other snagged items.

Let’s explore what transpired behind their decision to return the loot.

Funny crime cases:

“Golden” collar returned plus interest

Last week, two thieves underwent a grand heist and stole a “golden” cat collar and two bottles of hand sanitiser from a manor. Little did they know, they were caught on CCTV.

They later returned the fake golden cat collar and hand sanitizers to the house. They also took the liberty of attaching an apology note and ฿60 (~USD2) as compensation for the owners’ trouble.

I’m sorry we stole your hand sanitiser, and the cat collar. Our intoxication led to our unforgivable acts. When we heard about the news you were looking for your stolen goods, we decided to return them.

You may be wondering, why the sudden change of heart? The decision to return stolen goods apparently came after the owner Ging Tapae posted CCTV screenshots on their Facebook page on 20th May 2021.

Important announcement for everyone. We’re looking for these two men who stole Sia Gao’s cat collar and hand sanitisers. If you’re the burglar, please return them.

Sia Gao’s owner’s post included CCTV footage of the robbers taking the golden collar and two hand sanitiser bottles, as well as the timestamp of the robbery – 19th May 2021 at 7.34PM.

Don’t mess with cats and their owners

Just in case the burglars didn’t know who they were messing with, Ging even added that they had their vehicle details and clearly outlined the consequences of the robbers’ actions, “If the items are not returned we will press charges against you.”

Whether or not it was the burglars’ conscience that led them to return the items or the owner’s eloquent messaging, it did the job.

The owner further asserted that even though the collar was made from fake gold, it still wasn’t acceptable to steal it, in a statement carried by Naewna

Turning over a new leaf

While the robbers mentioned that they were intoxicated, the fact that they stole the cat’s belongings still stands.

However, it seems that the burglars did realise the error of their ways and did the right thing by returning the valuables with interest.
