Insects and other creepy crawlies are considered brekkie for many who are settled in rural Thailand. However, having bugs included in our typical meals would be beyond most of our imagination.
Well, it seems the unimaginable has become a reality – reminiscent of Fear Factor, these Thai YouTubers have made a raw earthworm salad.
The first thought that pops into mind upon hearing about this is, “why?”. Well, maybe they did it because these critters are protein-packed like crickets or bamboo grub, or maybe they were simply hungry?

YouTubers eat raw earthworm salad & find it delicious
On 24th August 2021, YouTubers were seen eating raw earthworm salad on My Mesuan‘s channel. The video has gone viral – at the time of writing, it had received more than 300K views and over 18K likes. These daring individuals made the unlikely dish and filmed themselves eating it in response to a prior promise they made to their viewers: if an older video received more than 10K likes, they’d eat raw earthworms.
Before their mini feast, they showed viewers how to make the salad. They soaked live earthworms in soda water until they stopped moving – the content creators also assured that the worms were cleansed from extra contamination.Â

Then, they add half a lime, dried chilli powder, several tablespoons of salt and sugar, before aggressively mixing everything together. Voila! Simple as that, you have an earthworm salad.
For those who feel like watching them eat the peculiar dish, you can fast forward 9.25 minutes into the video – that’s when they start to pass the salad around.

The first guy who took a bite off this gritty menu seemed to be more affected by its all-spicy and umami flavours, rather than the fact that it’s an earthworm salad.

When it was passed to another individual at timestamp 12.39, viewers can see a more pronounced reaction to the dish earthworm salad. One of the brave eaters further commented that the texture of the dish is comparable to egg noodles.

When it was handed over to the fourth eater, he didn’t seem to enjoy it one bit – his true reactions are showed 14.36 minutes into the video.

Some dishes are appealing to others, while some are not at all – like earthworm salad. There are some who are willing to try stuff just for the novelty, and while we commend them and their bravery, we’d still say their raw earthworm salad is a rather radical dish that we probably won’t dare try.
Before you consider trying earthworm salads, it’s highly recommended for that you consider any health risks.
