Phuket’s efforts to help COVID-19 patients

Phuket now has 26 COVID-19 infections after 9 more cases were reported on 24th March 2020. The province, being a tourist hotspot, is preparing for a higher number of infections by transforming the new provincial convention hall into a COVID-19 field hospital.

On 23rd March 2020, Phuket’s Provincial Disease Control Committee declared that the new Provincial Convention Hall will become a field facility for new COVID-19 patients.

The ground floor of the building will be used to provide treatment for COVID-19 patients with non-serious symptoms and comes equipped with 40 beds. The upper floor, with 70 beds, will be put into use if necessary if cases increase.

Patients with more severe conditions and those requiring respirators will remain treated at Vachira Phuket Hospital as per normal.

This new COVID-19 field facility has not opened yet. However, Pakkapong Thawipat, Phuket’s governor, mentioned that this temporary hospital is expected to open on 27th March 2020.
