Pattaya mayor donates money to fix children’s playground

When it comes to voting for a local mayor, we look out for candidates whom we think can contribute to our society, whether it be improving the infrastructure or helping citizens.

Pattaya’s mayor, Sontaya Khunpluem, went one step further by donating his own money to fix a children’s playground in Koh Larn. Here’s what netizens thought about the gesture.

The children’s playground was run-down due to wear and tear

On 21st March 2022, a local city representative informed the mayor about the run-down playground, sharing that conditions were not ideal.

Without urgent repairs, it would be dangerous for children to play in a playground that isn’t in good condition. Apparently some parts of the playground had been damaged before, reports NewsChon.

Upon hearing the news, Mayor Sontaya and his officials came to Koh Larn to examine the area to find out what needed to be improved.

Understandably, a playground is regarded as an important place for children to hang out within the community. That’s also why the mayor felt compelled to act on the feedback, since Koh Larn doesn’t have access to many entertaining places like the children in the city do, quipped Mayor Sontaya to The Pattaya News.

To bypass the long approval process to request for a budget to upgrade the playground, Sontaya decided to donate ฿100,000 from his own savings to fix the playground for the children there.

A good example of a leader who’s willing to make sacrifices

By prioritising Koh Larn residents’ benefits — we think Mayor Sontaya set a good example in Pattaya for other leaders.

In the end, citizens are fortunate to have leaders who see the benefits in helping to improve the welfare of citizens in the long-run.
