Making supplies available for everyone in the community

The “Pantry of Sharing” initiative is becoming a hit in Thailand, with many people setting up cupboards filled with necessary daily items such as tissues and instant noodles. One hotel owner in Trat even filled in the pantry with durians.
This movement aims to provide supplies for those in need after being affected by the bad economic situation during the pandemic.
Cars fully stocked with essentials

On 14th May, police officers at Plian Police Station in Nakhon Si Thammarat, together with the village head and Chief Executive of Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, filled up 2 police cars with essential items such as water, canned fish, instant noodles and snacks.

The cars made stops at 19 villages in the community to make sure everyone could get access to the supplies. This also prevented people from travelling out just to get their supplies from other “Pantries of Sharing” which might be too far away.

The event received a great response, with many people queuing up waiting to get their supplies. In order to keep everyone safe, police officers gave everyone in the queue a temperature check, hand sanitiser gels, and made sure everyone was 1 metre away from each other.

Pol. Col.Torsak Boonlon, the superintendent of the police station, stated that the sharing pantry in front of the police station is always filled with supplies. However, he rarely saw locals dropping by to take supplies from the pantry.
Therefore, he thought that it could be more convenient for them if the police officers could make the supplies available right in front of their doorsteps. He also added that this initiative will be held every day until the situation returns to normal.
