Thailand Moves Into Third Phase, Several Businesses To Reopen In June

Cinemas, karaoke, and fitness venues are coming back

Update: In an updated decision, selected venues such as boxing stadiums and water parks will not be reopening, Bangkok Post reports.

Congratulations Thailand – the number of infections nationwide remains low, with new daily cases in single digits over the past two weeks.

With the situation of COVID-19 in Thailand seeming much better, many more businesses are set to reopen this June as the lockdown gradually gets lifted more.

What will be open next month

On 24th May 2020, the deputy director-general of the Disease Control Department, Tanarak Plipat, mentioned that more businesses and activities in the yellow group (moderate risk of COVID-19 transmission) will resume operations as the third stage of the lockdown comes into effect.

Dr Tanarak also said the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has planned to officially announce a list of all businesses that will reopen on 27th or 28th May 2020. As for now, businesses are said to open again soon include:

Cinemas
Bowling alleys
Skating rinks
Karaoke outlets
Zoos
Tuition centres
Events held at hotels
Trade exhibition centres
Fitness centres

However, the specific date of the reopening has yet to be announced, and all entertainment spots like bars or pubs will remain closed. So, drinkers might still need to continue their detox for a little while more.

More good news is that the committee will hold discussions soon if the curfew period should be shortened to midnight to 4AM, said National Security Council secretary-general, Somsak Roongsita.

Meanwhile, though other places and attractions have yet to officially reopen, travellers who enjoy visiting historic sites can now head to Ayutthaya, as attraction spots in Muang district like Wat Phananchoeng and Wat Yai Chaimongko are back in action.

All visitors are required to wear a face mask, have their temperatures checked, stay sanitised, and follow social distancing policies.

The country is now on its way back to normal. However, as the virus has yet to be gone for good, be sure to wash your hands and wear a face mask when outdoors.
