Koh Samet takes precautions against the virus

It’s only been half a month since phase 5 of the lockdown has been in effect, and Thailand is on alert again as there were new COVID-19 cases detected in the country. This led to many schools temporarily closing again and to some touristy hotspots taking the necessary precautions.

Located next to the mainland of Rayong, Koh Samet has shut out visitors after an Egyptian visitor was found to be COVID-19 positive in Rayong.
Even though the island is 30-kilometre away from the city where the case was found, Koh Samet has taken precautions to prevent any potential virus transmissions. Hotels on the island have gotten lots of cancellations as well, making tourism dip once again.
“We lost so much money since we closed for 98 days. When we opened July 1 we were able to breathe a bit with 10 days of tourists. Now, everything is dark,” said Phanthira Maksomboon, the owner of I-Talay hotel, to Khaosod English.
Preventing the second wave
As the new COVID-19 case was found in Rayong, 1,603 local people who visited the same place as the patient did were tested. Good news is that they were all tested negative.
However, we must still stay vigilant to prevent the possibility of another surge of cases. Make sure to be on guard and stay tuned for updates.
