Fake note scam at gas station

Whenever we hear about fake money scams, we often picture legit-looking counterfeit notes from a secret black market. Well, apparently that was too much investment for this scammer.

Earlier this week, a male driver drove his blue pickup truck into a gas station in Samut Songkhram at around midnight. Like other normal customer, he got his tank filled up. When the station staff asked for the total payment of ฿1,850, the man only handed over a folded ฿1,000 note.

Looked like a real note when folded

When folded, the note looked just like a real ฿1,000 note. But when the gas station attendant unfolded it, he instantly realised it was cartoon money – with WarGreymon from the anime Digimon Adventure printed on it.

Before the poor guy could react, the driver sped out of the gas station, leaving the staff with fake money as payment.

The plate was being covered

When the gas station’s manager checked the security cameras, she found the plates partially covered in white paint. The only thing she could make out of were the numbers “8100.”

The suspect is yet to be identified or captured. And unfortunately, the staff needed to pay for the gas out of their own pockets.

Not the first money scam at a gas station

Unfortunately, this was not the first time something like this happened. In September 2019, a driver used his credit card as payment, but it was declined. When the staff returned, the driver was already bolting out – he was also never captured.

Whoever did this, whether a die-hard scammer or just a prankster, has put innocent people in a difficult position – and that’s just not OK. We hope he gets caught soon and that the staff get their money back.
