Elephant with spot-on hairstyle


On Sunday, Maetaeng Elephant Park & Clinic in Chiang Mai shared photos of grandma Bunma, a 70-year-old female elephant in their care. She quickly went viral for her fabulous hairstyle with cute bangs.

The post has since been shared over 1,000 times with more than 200 comments from netizens showing her their love. Thailand’s wildlife news agency Forest for Wild Life also mentioned grandma Bunma on Twitter, and it has been retweeted over 14,000 times as of today.

Thai netizens were quick to point out grandma Bunma’s special feature, her thick hair, which is super rare for elephants to have. At first glance, it almost looks like this elephant granny has cute bangs on her head.

Some commenters went further and pointed out that grandma Bunma looks like a present-day mammoth. 

After the post went viral, many local news outlets rushed to the sanctuary to visit and talk about grandma Bunma’s cute hairdo, said Maetaeng Elephant Park & Clinic.

Just 50 kilometres north of Chiang Mai, Maetaeng park is an elephant sanctuary that offers free treatment to elephants in the area. 

All visitors can visit grandma Bunma and other elephants in person free of charge. Moreover, the park offers free elephant shows like painting and playing footballs on the weekends, as well as on national holidays. 

The most important part, the sanctuary assured that all elephants here are treated with love and respect by qualified mahouts and staff.
