Seniors are a sensitive group that is more vulnerable to COVID-19, which requires them to be closely monitored to ensure they don’t get into contact with the virus.

A big cause behind the elderly getting affected is due to previously infected family members passing on the virus – like the case of this 70-year-old grandpa who tested positive for COVID-19. He caught the attention of netizens when photos of him taking social distancing seriously went viral on the internet.

He was worried about his wife more than himself

This 70-year-old man is the 6th case found in Konkan province, who had been in close contact with his wife, who had been previously infected.

After getting his results from the local hospital, he waited for the ambulance to pick him up. He was afraid of spreading the virus to others, so he stepped away from his home and community to sit under a tree alone with a pack of food.

Translation: Fight with it, grandpa – the 6th patient. I almost cried when looking at these pictures. He was waiting for the hospital to pick him up and didn’t want to stay close to others. The grandpa said he was tested positive but is still feeling alright for now. He was worried more about his wife who was previously infected. We hope the both of you get well soon.

The post also ended with the message, “Don’t be scared or disgusted by them if they come back after the treatment.” This was due to locals in the area feeling uneasy and worried about patients who had recovered and gotten discharged, afraid that they would pass on the virus again.

It was suspected that both seniors might have gotten the virus from their child who had returned from Bahrain, although tested negative.

Netizens give him encouragement to get better

Tonnes of netizens came together to give him their support.

Hope both grandparents to get better soon

As reported on INNnews, grandpa’s wife has been experiencing severe symptoms due to congenital diseases – diabetes and high blood pressure.

It is important for the rest of us to keep the people around us safe, especially seniors who might not be as strong enough to fight against the virus. Stay at home and practice good hygiene – we hope the 2 of them can overcome this virus soon!
