The number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand has remained in the single digits in the past recent weeks. However, the number has surged again as 17 Thai returnees from the Middle East were tested positive for COVID-19.

It was reported on 4th June 2020, that 17 Thais returnees from the Middle East were found positive for COVID-19 – 13 from Kuwait, 2 from Qatar, and 2 from Saudi Arabia. This is the highest number of infections in the past few weeks. 

All cases were found to be positive during their second test in state quarantine, which was approximately one week after their first check, said Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government’s Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration. And, 15 of 17 were found to be asymptomatic, Bangkok Post reports.

Even though the number of infections in Thailand sees a surge, all of them are now staying in state quarantine and are under intensive care.
