Chiang Mai resort’s raging creek has netizens concerned

Urbanites can’t wait to go on vacation to get away from the city’s hustle and bustle. But one TikTok user took it to another level when she got a little too close to nature.

In a viral TikTok video, a young girl appeared to eat her meal next to a raging creek at a Chiang Mai resort.

Here’s the story and how it drew the worry of Thai netizens.

Chiang Mai resort’s raging creek puts the “adventure” in travel

Usually, a resort getaway to Chiang Mai promises a lot of close contact with nature. At Nata Chiang Mai Chic Jungle is one such resort, among many others in the north of Thailand.

For context, one end of the resort faces the street, while the other boasts views of a river creek where visitors can typically enjoy swings over the water.

However, due to heavy rain in Thailand in the past few weeks, that same stream has turned into a deadly torrent of water. That’s when one TikTok user posted a clip of herself enjoying a meal at the resort while the water rushed by right beside her.

Thai netizens react with worry and concern

The clip, which has amassed 2.3 million views and over 140,000 likes, drew the attention and concern of many Thai netizens. As always, the concern was laced with signature Thai humour.

Translation: Run quick. They’ve sounded the sirens.

Understandably, our TikTok user did not stay there long and returned to higher ground after her meal.

Safety first, especially during flood season

It may be tempting, especially in our content-driven environment, to try to capture a wild moment. But that should not take priority over taking care of yourself.

No amount of views will be able to make up for permanent bodily harm. In this case, though the girl’s video shed some light on the troubles we could face during the floods, we’re more relieved she’s okay.
