Thailand Reopens Cinemas & Gyms On 1 Oct, Bars Remain Closed

Bangkok reopens gyms and more this October


It’s been about a year and a half since the earth-shattering situation began, and about two months since public spaces were ordered to close in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 in Thailand.

However, it appears that the light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer.

This Friday 1st October 2021, much-missed businesses – like gyms and nail salons – will be allowed to resume operations in Bangkok as well as in Thailand’s other 28 Dark Red zones.

Here are the details of the government’s announcement.

Gyms, cinemas and spas to reopen in Bangkok and other Red Zone provinces


Gyms, cinemas, spas and seven other businesses will be allowed to reopen for business this Friday 1st October 2021 in Bangkok and Thailand’s 28 other Red Zone provinces.

The announcement was made on 27th September 2021, as reported by Coconuts Bangkok.

Here’s a complete list of establishments that will be allowed to resume operations this Friday:

  1. Manicure salons
  2. Cinemas
  3. Museums and other historical sites
  4. Learning enrichment centres, cultural centres and art centres
  5. Indoor gyms and other sporting areas
  6. Tattoo parlours
  7. Pre-schools
  8. Libraries
  9. Massage parlours and spas
  10. Live music performances will be allowed indoors

Furthermore, the evening curfew that currently goes from 9PM-4AM will be shortened by one hour to 10PM-4AM.

Amidst all these announcements, bars and nightclubs have not been mentioned.


Thailand halves mandatory quarantine period from 1st November


Alongside announcements that businesses will be reopening came notice that Thailand plans to halve the 14-day mandatory quarantine period.

Reports from Bloomberg state that the isolation period will be reduced in Bangkok, as well as nine other provinces.


Bangkok reopens gyms: a sign of hope for the future


After months of seeing little signs of normalcy returning, it’s nice to see one as grand as gyms – a place where we come in contact with multiple people – reopening.

We’re excited for Thailand’s next chapter, and are hopeful that the reopening will continue to go smoothly.
