1. Momiji Specialty Coffee — Osaka-inspired teahouse with a mini garden

Let’s start with this Japan-concept teahouse that will mislead you into thinking you’re in Japan for a hot second due to its signs written in Japanese and architectural design.

Standing in front of the cafe, the tawny wooden entrance strikes a contrast with the mainly white, minimalist building – commanding your attention the moment you draw near the premises. Look out for the large logo evidently attached on the wall to know that you’ve 100% arrived at Momiji Specialty Coffee.

Crossing to the other side, the establishment is also home to a Croissant Taiyaki stall, resembling one you can find in Osaka, and a souvenir store where you can browse for some snacks to buy back for your family.

Hungry? Take your time to choose your croissant filling. If you can’t decide. we’d recommend their Ham Cheese Croissant for ฿110 (~USD3)/piece that comes with sliced ham and warm melted cheese stuffing.

After getting your croissant, don’t forget to cross back to order a drink to complement your snack. The must-try item here would be a cup of Matcha Green Tea for ฿80 (~USD2) – a drink that’s doused in Matcha powder and rich milk at the bottom of the cup.

If you’re an energetic person, we bet you wouldn’t like sitting idly at a table, so we’d recommend going for a walk to explore this lush garden with a tiny Nihon bridge situated inside the teahouse.

We know what you are thinking. Photo junkies will be glad to note that the garden offers many photo spots so be sure not to exit the cafe until you’ve snapped at least 100 pics on your phones.

2. Highway Cafe — a retro 50s-inspired American diner

For Hollywood fans out there, we’re sure you have seen lots of American diners in US movies. If you wish to visit one, here’s your opportunity without having to dig out your passport to take a 10-12 hour flight to the Land of Freedom.

Situated close to Bang Saen Beach, landing a seat at Highway Cafe means you’ll get easy views of the beach if you opt for outdoor seating. FYI, there’s no need to fret about the heat because there are plenty of beach umbrellas to protect you from the UV.

However, if the weather is too warm for you, pick a seat indoors and get more 50s American diner vibes inside with the authentic window blinds, and checkered tiles, a stark contrast with the patriotic red, white and blue highlights.

Now let’s take a closer look at the food. As expected, burgers and nuggets are offered as menu staples here. So, if you fancy eating burgers, try this Fish Burger for ฿105  (~USD3). For this price, you’ll get a big fillet of fried fish topped with ketchup and mayonnaise. We’ll top that off with an Oreo Smoothie at ฿85 (~USD2) with Oreo crumbs mixed with blended whole-fat milk and served in a fountain glass.

3. Nomisuke Ramen — Japanese-style cafe with ramen from ~USD5

Another Japanese cafe is worth-mentioning here, but this might remind you of beachside ramen stalls that wouldn’t feel out of place along the shorelines of Hokkaido.

Nomisuke Ramen is a smol cafe that’s located next to Bang Saen Beach. The cafe resembles a ramen stall with a vending machine sitting next to it – yes, the exact kind of vending machines you’ll mostly see in Japan.

Unlike other coffee shops, Nomisuke Ramen is an open-air cafe with an outdoor dining area where customers can enjoy their meals along with the cool sea breeze. We think the shop deserves 10/10 for effort in being designed to exude a Nippon atmosphere. Whether you come in the day or at night, expect to see crowds of people taking photos and slurping on hearty bowls of ramen.

Whenever you visit a ramen house, you can’t miss out on their ramen, right? The star dish here is arguably their Nomisuke Ramen ฿175 (~USD4). Think soft ramen noodles topped with Chashu pork slices and a half boiled egg in spicy pork bone broth seasoned with black pepper sauce. On the side lies a piece of nori – aka seaweed – which adds some accents to the ramen.

4. Namon Nomwan — a circular glasshouse surrounded by a lush grove

Here comes an already famous cafe in Bang Saen that most locals will know of right away, once you mention the name.

Namon Nomwan is cafe tucked away under the lush canopy of a garden that’s sure to throw you back to simpler times in the villages. Once you walk inside, the first thing that will catch your eyes is this circular-shaped glasshouse that surrounds a towering tree all decked out in vertically strung fairy lights. Coming here to catch the sunset with your lover will definitely pile on the romantic vibes for sure.

Moreover, on top of the cafe, there’s a large seating area where you can come up for a 360° view, or a new Insta DP, as the table set-up is pretty well-liked by visitors for portrait pics.

Speaking of photo spots, one of the highlights is this little bed that’s placed right smack in the middle of the courtyard of the cafe.

Apart from the glasshouse, you can opt for a seat at the back – plonk yourself down on a black cushion on the ground with a smol table or dine at a picnic table with your pals.

Now you might be curious about the corrugated building at the back. It’s actually a dedicated restroom built with galvanised iron sheets, resembling a vintage house in Thailand’s countryside.

For those who are first-time visitors, we heard that slices of their Toasted Bread for ฿40 (~USD1)/piece is extremely popular with tourists; do note that the price varies depending on the filling you choose. Coupled with a Watermelon Smoothie at ฿95 (~USD2), it could be a simple, but memorable meal indeed.

5. So Sea Cafe — tropical rooftop bar & sea resort

Located in Ang Sila, So Sea Cafe offers a rooftop space with an octagonal thatched bar and six villas with Balinese vibes.

Looking out into the sea, there are many visible palm trees dotting the coast and along some areas of the cafe. With high-rise seating – you can surely get an uninterrupted panoramic view of the sunset here at twilight.

6. We Cottage Bang Saen — sip on a cup of tea in this British cottage

Here’s a chance to dress up in a British suit and sip a cup of tea at We Cottage Bang Saen, a traditional stone tearoom designed to resemble an old cottage in UK’s countryside.

Checking out the interior, you’ll be greeted with large windows that allow you to gaze at the garden outside the house, as well as numerous bouquets of hanging dried flowers that help to bolster the room’s ambience.

As you can see, tables are set nicely in two rows on both sides of the cafe with a little bit of natural light cast on the rooftop. Additionally, if you want to be more exposed to the greenery, feel free to grab a seat outdoors, which will let you enjoy your meal amidst nature.

We’re sure you all have tried Tom Yum Kung before as it is a famous dish in Thailand, but we bet you’ve never seen fusion spaghetti quite like this. So why don’t you give it a try?

A blend between Thai and Western cuisine, this Tom Yum Kung Spaghetti ฿160 (~USD4) is served in creamy tom yum soup complete with ingredients like galangal, lime leaves, and seafood. If you’re drooling while looking at this bowl, it also means that you’ll have to come and try it for yourself.

7. Red Temp Cafe — Italian-inspired cafe in a lighthouse with sunset views

Next, the premises of Red Temp Cafe is home to Italian-inspired architecture and a miniature lighthouse on the western coast of Khao Sam Muk. This eatery is both a cafe and a restaurant with various fine cuisines to munch on with unparalleled views of the sea.

Let’s focus on the snacks on the menu here for a bit. For those with a sweet tooth, you can find plenty of cakes and croissants at the bar-counter. If you want our honest recommendations, we’d say get the NY Cheesecake for ฿135 (~USD3) – rich in heavy cream and vanilla and topped with cracker crusts and a strawberry. Pair this with a refreshing glass of Sila Don ฿125 (~USD3) – a soda mixed with plum juice – to cut through the richness.

Chasers of perpetual sunsets should  absolutely opt for an outdoor seat at the patio, to warm up under the glow of the golden light before it descends below the horizon.

8. Hideout Beach Cafe & Bistro — panoramic sea views and spicy salmon salad

Here’s another cafe that borders the sea, so close that you can even hear the waves crashing while eating your meal. Hideout Beach Cafe & Bistro is a hidden eatery located in Bang Phra which is 25 minutes away from Bang Saen Beach. The cafe offers an outdoor dining that’s covered with white pebbles. Various types of seating are also provided for selection, such as picnic tables, bar counters, and bean bags.

Walking inside the bistro, you can’t miss these two bar-counters on the left with many bottles displayed on the shelves that would trigger hardcore drinkers’ thirst immediately.

For those who worry about the humid weather, there’s a minimalist air-conditioned dining room at the back of the cafe that will keep you cool, regardless of the scorching heat.

When you arrive at this hideout – pardon the pun – don’t miss their Spicy Salmon Salad for ฿195 (~USD5) which is regarded as a must-try here. The dish will be plated with a row of salmon slices topped with spicy sauce. Plus, you’ll get additional spicy sauce in a tiny dipping tray to pour over the salmon if you feel like it’s not spicy – aka zaap – enough.

9. Seafood Club Bangsaen — seafood in mini-Hawaii with live music

We know that Hawaii is a dream destination for many folks due to its famed white sandy beaches as well as crystal blue oceans. We bet that Bang Saen’s iteration at Seafood Club Bangsaen can give you a teaser of those vibes too. It’s an extremely tempting location for a seafood dinner in the middle of summer for Bangkok city folk looking for a quick getaway.

Each dining table has a thatched umbrella to act as shade, so you won’t have to be afraid that you’ll be burned by the sunlight. Looking around, you can see that the cafe is also decked with beach props, like surfboards, bamboos partitions, and floats – shoutout to Baywatch anyone?

As for recommended food – if you’re on a hi-so budget – consider this Taraba Crab for ฿3,500 (~USD98)/kg served with heaps of salmon fried rice. For more slightly more affordable options, there’s Ika Sashimi – glass squids sliced thinly into pieces and slathered with spicy sauce for ฿390 (~USD11)/plate.

10. NijiHouse — minimalist pastel teahouse with IG photo spots

Honestly, we find this NijiHouse a pleasant place to hang out for those into the minimalist Muji aesthetic. Decked in pastel, the teahouse is also home to a cheeky tetris-esque wall display comprised of white tiles. You’ll be sure to spot this at the entrance for sure.

When you arrive, another thing you’ll notice is the outdoor seating with tiny tables and small round pads to sit on, unlike other typical cafes.

Getting inside, you’ll spot a seating area that has chairs in bright orange, and teal colours. Above each seat rests a rectangular planter with mini brushes of floral accents in cool shades of lavenders and pinks.

If you have no idea what you should have to match the shop’s aesthetic, we think an Iced Cocoa at ฿60 (~USD1,70) would be a great place to start to quench your thirst. Plus points for the chocolatey brown drink’s contrast against the marble surfaces and pastel walls.

And we’ve come to the last one on our list, Artory.cafe.crafts that boasts a chic architectural design in a colorless theme, reminding us of a modern Nordic house in Iceland.

If you can’t enjoy your drink without looking at the sea, we suggest you grab a seat at this bar table by these large windowsills which offer you an uninterrupted view of Wonnapha Beach.
