Baan Suan Noi Resort

As a Bangkok regular, I know what to expect from my visits. Against the backdrop of Bangkok’s infamous traffic, I will be kept busy with street food, lots of shopping and haggle sessions at various night markets.

However, this time round I’m looking to change things up by heading to Khao Yai – a 3-hour ride away from Bangkok. This is why I’ve taken it upon myself to introduce you to one of my golden finds here: Baan Suan Noi Hobbit Resort.

If you’re into fairytales or are a Lord Of The Rings fan who’s been dying to visit The Shire, I promise you’d want to read on to find out more about this peculiar resort.

As most hardcore fans of the LOTR or The Hobbit Trilogy would know, you’d have to fly all the way down to New Zealand for a walking tour of the Hobbiton set.

Never mind the cost of the flight or the tour itself, I remember being left wanting at the end of the tour years ago.

Since we were only allowed to take pictures outside the houses, I was disappointed that we couldn’t step inside to experience the actual set. That’s why I was so excited that Baan Suan Noi Resort could fill the gaps in my imagination.

Here, the rooms are fully furnished for a comfortable and cozy stay.

In addition to amenities like a mini fridge, a BBQ pit and a whimsical garden, the furniture within the homes re-creates that sense of fairytale wonder we all desire in a LOTR-inspired fantasyland.

For only ฿1,500 (~USD45), you get to stay a night in their lovely 1-bedroom hobbit house, perfect for couples or a small family of 3.

If only I’d known this resort existed years ago, I probably would have just come down here for that fairytale-movie-come-to-life experience instead of schlepping all the way to New Zealand.

They have 13 different types of hobbit houses which cost ฿1,500 – ฿4,000/night.

With 13 different hobbit houses available, visitors can choose which one they’d like to spend the night in. For some of these houses, Baan Suan Noi Resort have seemingly added their own little modern spin on them.

One such example would be their White Cave, which costs ฿1,500 (~USD45)/night.

Each room has different capacities, with their largest room, the M3, costing ฿4,000 (~USD119)/night, with a capacity for 8 – 10 pax.

Through the various rooms, it’s clear how the resort takes pride in their efforts to bring visitors out of Thailand and into different fantasylands.

Hence, I wasn’t surprised to know that there was a Little Santorini here too.

There is also a Little Santorini here

Out of their many room options, the Little Santorini feels like a whole new world.

The bright white walls in the room provide a stark contrast against the various shades of blue. Instantly, the rooms take us out of the Shire and straight into a whole other world that is Greece.

Though, I’m not gonna lie… that casual ice bear on the bed gave me some major ‘Ice Age’ vibes.

If you don’t fancy an overnight stay, there are also options available for a simple day tour or an afternoon of cosplaying.

Explore the resort and rent a costume to cosplay at the Shire for only ฿50 – ฿100.

If you’d like to make this a day visit, you can pay a ฿50 (~USD1.50) entrance fee for a tour around the resort.

Alternatively, ฿100 (~USD3) covers the entrance fee and costume rental, promising a whole afternoon of fun at the Shire.

There is also a wide selection of costumes available for rent. So whether you’d like to dress up as a hobbit or fairytale characters like Elsa from Frozen, there’s definitely something for you.
