Mr Bean specialises in producing and selling soya bean products. Although it joined the market later than Jollibean, it has proved a strong competitor and may have even taken over Jollibean in terms of popularity amongst customers.
I love Mr Bean’s classic soya milk as it tastes really fresh and refreshing. Mr Bean’s pastries are also extremely tasty. My favourite is its patties which have red bean and cheese filling. Their “Tang Yuan” and pineapple tarts are also worth a try! What stands out for Mr Bean is its super cute logo/mascot that has earned the favour of the public. Many children even buy the Mr Bean plush toy and keychain!
Mr Bean is located all over Singapore, in malls and at the basement of MRT stations. It is definitely a healthy snack for everyone to enjoy!
Being someone who is constantly swinging on the pendulum of being on time and being late for school and work, sitting down and having a breakfast is just, impossible. So what do you do when you're always running late? Skip breakfast or buy something on the go.
Before getting on the bus, I'll grab their cheese pancake and milk tea, and it gives me so much life I live. I live. The pancakes have a nice chewy texture, with a creamy burst of cheese in the middle, perfect to start the day off. And their Soy Milk Tea, it's like, amazing. Even though you can't really taste the tea, the soy flavour is just pure enjoyment. And it's like I can't start a morning with this breakfast set. The best part, it's $3.50 only. Hello?
But if you prefer something cold to cool yourself down, Mr Bean's ingenious soy ice cream is just on fleek. healthy and yummy, there is no better way to treat yourself.
Nothing can be compared to a good old soya bean! It is a perfect beverage served cold on a hot weather in Singapore, especially for a health nut like me. A cup of soya bean or bean curd is full of protein, carbohydrate, as well as vitamins and minerals, including calcium, folic acid and iron. What is there not to love about it?!
Their pancakes are also a legend. They are my childhood snack, my parents will alway buy the signature cheese flavor ones when I was a kid. TIll now, it is still my favorite flavor because its taste never change. You know the saying, old is gold, just like the cheese pancakes at Mr Bean.
Do not forget about the ice cream as well! The genius who create it is brilliant, because this is one ice cream I won't feel sinful eating. It is very natural and fill with goodness of the soy bean, that I won't think twice for a second helping!
I love the pancakes here. The have a pretty good range of flavours and it's always a great snack to have. Compared to other greasy fried snacks other stalls sell, this really is a healthier alternative. My personal favourite is the chocolate pancakes - the chocolate filling is rich is thick in flavour.
However, you must have the pancakes while they're hot as reheating them will harden the pancakes and they will not be as good as before.
They're known for their soya bean drink and ice cream as well. Their soy ice cream is amazing! It does not taste artificial at all - in fact, it tastes healthy and natural.
The prices here are affordable as well so go ahead if you're looking for a quick snack!
Mr Bean is my favourite place to get healthy soy drinks and snacks! Their cute mascot adds to their appeal as well, and reinforces their friendly and down-to-earth brand image.
Here, you will be able to find things like pancakes, ice blended drinks, milkshakes and ice cream, all containing soybean! Soybean is known to be full of health benefits, making it little wonder that this place is popular with adults and older people who pay more attention to their health.
My favourite items on the menu are their Pearly Soya Milk as well as Chocolate Pancake! Both are healthy yet had flavour, and actually complement each other well! Regarding the service, it really varies from outlet to outlet but generally, the aunties at the counter are quite nice. Price wise, everything is very affordable and reasonably priced! I'm actually craving some of their pancakes right now, helppp :(
I like to snack a lot but I also want to stay in shape, therein lies the dilemma - most snacks are unhealthy and fattening and snacking usually means putting on some extra weight. Enter Mr Bean! At Mr Bean, unhealthy bubble tea is replaced with an equally pleasant variety of soya bean drinks while junk food snacks are replaced by healthy small bites.
What I like about Mr Bean is how the selection of food and drinks are healthy and savoury at the same time. There are ice blended drinks that taste as good as drinks from bubble tea shops, but aren't as guilt-inducing. My personal favourite is Watermelon Soya Bean. I would trade a Strawberry Cream Cheese pancake for an Old Chang Kee curry puff anytime because of how much healthier it is. On a two axis scale which measures tastiness and healthiness, Mr Bean seems to score well and attain the Holy Grail of having good and healthy food. Even their ice-cream is healthy! (Soya bean ice-cream, that is!)
In selected outlets, there are tables and chair that gives you a warm and cosy atmosphere not unlike Starbucks. As a matter of fact, I'm typing this review comfortably from the outlet at one-north! All in all, if you are a snack person like myself who wants to remove the guilt from the typically associated guilty pleasure of snacking, Mr Bean is for you.
Mr Bean's outlet at SMU is a saving grace, especially in between lessons when I'm running for class and I only have 15 minutes to get something to eat. It is also an excellent snack in the middle of class, something which has kept me awake for tons of boring lectures.
What I like most about Mr Bean is their pancakes, which comes with many different fillings like Kaya, Chocolate, Peanut, Chicken Mayo and Egg Mayo just to name a few. Paired with a hot cup of soya bean drink on a cold rainy day in a cold seminar room, this combination brings about warmth and rejuvenation to the tired body. Another great item on the menu is the good old fashioned soy bean curd, which is an alternative if you are not that into pancakes.
I likened Mr.Bean to the Starbucks of the ‘Soy’ Industry. It offers a wide range of pancakes and drinks that appeal to many people which I personally don’t enjoy. The drinks are alright and the consumers are able to determine the sugar level that’s suitable for them — which is a good thing.
What I don’t particularly like is the pancakes. The pancakes are too thick, sticky and unsatisfactorily chewy. And coupling that with a ridiculously thin spread of peanut/red bean/etc is a recipe for a displeasing pancake. I found myself giving the shop many chances simply because of its popularity and am always disappointed at the quality of its overrated pancakes.
If you’re looking for fancy pancakes to try, this is the place to go. However if you are searching for quality pancakes, walk away.
I used to avoid going to Mr Bean because it's all soy and seemed too healthy when I was 13. But now, this is one of the only snack stores I visit. Their soy drink is extremely refreshing, be it hot or cold. And if you were to buy a snack, you should totally buy an ice-cream to go along as well. It only costs $1.50 per cone. It tastes like soy milk and simply shouts 'HEALTHY' all over.
Mr Bean pancakes are also a must-try! My favorite flavors are caramel custard and chocolate. I heard there's a new strawberry flavor as well. Can't wait to try that. However, I heard bad reviews about the tuna pancakes. Some of my friends like them and some don't. You be the judge.
I used to hate drinking soya bean drinks or eating beancurd because I absolutely cannot stand the taste of soya bean. However, after giving Mr Bean’s cold soya bean with pearls a try, I can officially say I am a convert! Their soya bean drink does not give me the very starchy and dreg-filled feeling I get when I drink other kinds of soya bean drinks. Also, their pearls are very nice and not too soggy.
Mr Bean also sell other products besides soya bean drinks. They have a wide range of products on their menu, which includes soya bean ice-cream, pancakes with a variety of flavors for you to choose from, pineapple tarts, nuts, and even grass jelly drinks. Their pancakes are actually one of their signature products, and they have fillings such as tuna, egg-mayo, chocolate, and many more. However, the one flavor that sells out the fastest and is most well-known has got to be their cheese flavored pancakes, which are dee-licious! However, it is best to purchase pancakes that have just been made or are made on the spot upon ordering, because once the pancakes cool the cheese filling would become quite disgusting, and the pancake would not retain its fluffy and soft texture.
Another product that I absolutely love is their soya-bean ice cream! It comes in either a cone or a cup, depending on which you prefer. Their ice-cream really tastes heavily of soya-bean and it is just the right thing to have on a hot, sunny day in Singapore. However, their ice-cream currently has only one flavor – perhaps they can consider having other flavors, like chocolate soya-bean, for their ice-cream?
