This is one of the first programmes on channel 8 that I followed, as before that, most programmes were never interesting enough for me to follow. At this time, the artistes in the show were more concerned on their acting than image or fame, and their realistic acting combined with the excellent show script made this one of the best drama serials of all time.

With powerful elements of comedy, thrillers and romantism coupled with realistic situations, this drama definitely held the attention of many. In this show, Chen Li Ping really had an image that suited her role, and notable acting skill could be seen in Ye Shao Guang as well, who had managed to transcend into his character very well.

This drama is perhaps one of the only ones where Jeanette Aw acted well, and the comedic role of Patricia Mok and her kicking strength when angry was another eye catching part of this drama. Overall, I feel that this is one of the best local dramas where the cast really acted well and this drama is worth watching again.

Holland Village had it all. A stellar cast, intriguing plot twists great storyline and a uniquely Singapore touch. It had the ingredients for being an absolutely addictive drama that kept a large number of Singaporeans glued to their TV sets.

In a heart warming story about a Nasi Lemak seller who supported her sisters and brother singlehandedly after their parents died, the story offers a great insight to the real life trails and tribulations of many Singaporeans.

This is undoubtedly my favourite Mediacorp drama of all time. With the bulk of the Holland Village cast still in the acting scene, I don’t quite understand why is Mediacorp not able to replicate the success of Holland Village in newer dramas.

The return of Chen Liping

I never got down to following this drama properly because I was busy with my life then. However, snippets of the show I managed to catch at coffee shops and display TVs in electronic stores always manage to keep me watching on, rooted to the spot. The local flavor of the show is just so entertaining. Sadly, the show would end soon enough or, in the latter case, the sales guy would know I'm not gonna buy a TV and chase me off by changing the channel. That always works.

I especially liked the popularity that the show brought Chen Liping. Ever since her Aiyoyo teacher role which makes all kids hate their school for not having teachers like her, she have been assigned forgettable roles and generally been glossed over by all the younger and prettier stars coming onto the scene. This recognition was really long overdue but I'm glad it finally came for her in the role of Mo Wan Wan.

Though I am not a Chinese, I used to watch this Holland V fervently during my younger days when it was very popular. I remember that everyday while attending secondary school, I used to look forward to this drama every weeknight at 7pm on Channel 8. Even my parents who don't normally watch Chinese dramas, joined me. Holland V was really very interesting and I often used this time as "break time treat" from studies and homework. Some of the shots from the drama are still fresh in my memory. Watching Holland V was worth it and I would not think twice to re-watch the whole drama again! I especially liked Jeanette Aw's acting and many of the other sisters in the drama are now well-known actresses.

Thinking of the show itself brings a rush of childhood memories. Personally it is the best Chinese drama ever!

I still remember the excitement in me whenever I heard the theme song of Holland V being played on the television. Holland V is undoubtedly one of my favourite Channel 8 dramas; it was a classic.

I really enjoyed Chen Li Ping's acting (Mo Wan Wan) in the show - it was wild, crazy and so real. In fact, she was one of my favourite characters in the show. She remained confident in spite of her size, loud and loving of her sister; she was what we would term a "nv qiang ren", a woman who could fend for herself. I think most of us actually remember her for how she gained so much weight just to get into character. Her dedication deserves applause. To be honest, the acting of all the actresses and actors in Holland V was great. It was also extremely hilarious, which I would guess is what made the show such a popular one. Till today, I vividly remember Jeanette Aw being the slow and gullible younger sister Mo Jing Jing, and Patricia Mok (Mo Xiao Ling) an extremely fast runner. Their family was extremely interesting because they were all quirky in their own ways. Their love for one another was admirable as they went to lengths, as I remember, trying to catch a molester who molested Jing Jing. And who can forget Xie Shao Guang's character Yang Xiong, with his effeminate ways, as he desperately sought after Mo Wan Wan's heart? Because their acting had been so convincing down to the expressions, I can still remember their characters very clearly.

Holland V is, in my opinion, one of the best dramas of that generation and I honestly hope that they will have a rerun of this show soon.
