Great race experience, rewarding view

I took part in this year's Swissotel Vertical Marathon in the Womens' under-20 category. We were flagged off in group of 6 or less in one-minute intervals to prevent the stairwell from becoming too congested. As I reported rather late, I was in the last group of four to be flagged off.

The stairwell was spacious and that gave me space to overtake some of the runners who were previously flagged off. The stairwell was air-conditioned, which made it nice to race in; for the National Vertical Marathon which took place in the adjacent building, the stairwell was not air-conditioned which resulted in the stairwell being warm and stuff after the first few stories.

There were volunteers stationed on some of the floors to cheer us participants on, which gave me a boost in morale and encouraged me to push on. Of course, their presence alone made me want to start running again - with my big ego, I simply cannot be caught walking.

After finishing the race on the roof of Swissotel 73 stories in the air, the volunteers gave me my finisher's medal and water. I stayed at the top for about 5 minutes to admire the view - from the top, you could nearly see the whole of Singapore.

We were escorted to a lower floor where we took an express lift back down to the ground floor, where I took free Milo from the Milo truck that was parked outside the building. Overall, I felt this was an extremely well-organised race and the prizes were good too!
