During my younger days, I would often shop at 77th Street for the items were coolest then. Fast forward a decade, the main highlights of the shop still looks the same, the outlook and the products. I don't see much people patronizing the chain now for perhaps, the tastes of teenagers now have evolved.

Nonetheless, I recently went to 77th street again. My gf was a hardcore fan for cross pendants, those metallic and stylish one. The first thing that popped into my mind was 77th street (given my era, guess it's a natural reaction) when she told me that she wanted to buy a cross pendant. Brought her to 77th street and she finally saw something that caught her eye. The shop attendant, a young charming lady despite being a bit punk-ish, was kind enough to let us take a look at several different designs and let us have ample time to design despite being kind of frustrated in her tone of voice.

In the end, my gf purchased a metallic cross pendant ($20+, can't recall the exact price). While it may seem expensive for a metallic pendant, I found the value to be reasonable since the quality of the pendant is rather well. Not that I'm an expert in this field but the pendant weighs heavily as I rest it on my palm and the weight allows one to know that it's not empty inside but rather, really filled with metal. I might have to return to 77th street once again sometime soon though since my gf has lost her pendant =(

But all things will come to end.

77th Street used to be the hottest thing in my teenage years. It's a place of angry keychains and flashy apparel. The fashion here is incredibly young and loud and not you'd wear if you're beyond 17.

The store keepers are trained but not professional piercers, though I remember being warned by a friend to never try to get myself pierced here, so maybe the piercers are not that good at their craft.

Nowadays I come here only to get updates for my earrings and navel studs but the selections here are really limited so, skip over!

With multiple store locations around Singapore and even a branch set up in ION Orchard (sacred shopping paradise for me), you would think 77th street would have prettier and trendier clothes.
77th street specializes in punk clothing and sells supposedly rocker apparel. The clothes there are tacky and severely overpriced, and a simple shirt can retail for over $40.

I’ve visited the Tampines Mall branch a few times, only to be disappointed over and over again by the dated apparel and the obsolete accessories. Evidently, 77th street does not make any effort to keep with the trends and the clothes and accessories there are not often updated. I would be faced with the same studded accessories and bejeweled skulls every visit, warranting more than one visit a complete waste of time.

77th street experienced brief popularity back in 2009, but unfortunately, its time has long passed.

It's just a place that sells super punk-ish stuffs such as spikes and chains accessories. It's not a place for people that do not like rocky style. I don't really feel comfortable in the shop as the shop is pretty dark and spotlights are too glaring. I believe that the retail assistants are requested to dress more towards the 'rock-and-roll' style, hence majority of them are always in black or very loud prints. I don't really like that as they just look unprofessional to me.

Furthermore, their things can get really expensive. I once saw them selling colourful suede straps at $1 per piece and I got a few pieces for my project. However, I came to realized that Crystal 'N' Beads is selling it at $0.80 per piece and if you get it in a dozen, it would be $0.30 per piece. I was so angry and totally regretted buying it from 77th Street. Hence, I then came to the conclusion that their items are really way too over-rated.

There was a time where 77th Street was fashionable and cool. You were considered cool if you purchased a bag or pencil box from them. Too bad that time was about 5 years ago.

I have always felt that prices are expensive. I don't mind paying a premium price, but I expect a premium product in return, and sadly, 77th Street do not deliver. I admit in my secondary school days, I bought some items here, including fitted caps. Not 6 months later, they are all out-of-shape. Tells a lot about the workmanship you can find there.

Not for me anymore.

Many years back, I had a colleague that idolised the founder of this brand. The founder was Elim Chew and she made this the first fashion retailer to win the prestigious “Most Distinctive Brand” of Singapore Promising Brand Award given by The Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (ASME) and Lianhe Zaobao in 2004.

I was not sure whether my colleague was a personal friend of Elim Chew but she definitely wanted herself to be as successful as Elim Chew. I was sad to see so many reviews commenting that this brand is losing its appeal and not keeping up with times. It may be Elim Chew is no longer managing the business directly or this brand has just become a small part of a bigger business so the focus has been shifted.

77th Street was a raging fad several years ago! We purchased beads after beads of chains or other accessories there like we had an infinite supply of cash!

Unfortunately, it seemed to contract in terms of outlets. Their diverse outlets sprinkled across this island shrunk to a mere two or three.

I remembered being engulfed in envy when I discovered that the new ITE Campus would own this store directly within their own school compound!

Personally, there seemed to be a wider myriad of objects to choose from this store compared to it's current competitors like Diva. The quality wasn't horrid and their accessories weren't gaudy. Rather, they spruce banal outfits transforming the entire outlook to near sophistication!

Why and where did they vanished to? Mystery beholds an answer that no man knows.

Except for the main owner. Maybe.

This store is not much compared to others of its kind. The clothes and accessories they sell here are just not outstanding enough. Practically the only time I came here was to pierce my ears. However, that itself is not very satisfying.

At first I was apprehensive to try 77th street, because I heard some bad things about its ear piercing service. When I actually went there, they charged me a lot for the service). Anyway, they used a piercing gun and did not do a good job of it, and I really suffered with my ears later. Please do not pierce your ears here.

Other than that, although the accessories were very eye catching, they were not well priced enough.

I'm really surprised that there are still many 77th street outlets in many shopping malls I frequent. I hardly see a single soul shopping there at all. Only one lonely stall keeper keeping watch in a bored manner. Each time I enter the shop I see the same old items on sale. Yeah, some of them are nice but not really worth spending my money on.

My brother once splurged on a few hats from 77th street while we were shopping. I've never really seen him wear his hats outside. So I quizzed him about it and he said the quality was it not really good. He even planned to sell it but was quite sure no one would buy it. I've learned a lesson about rash buying. Really glad I did not spend on the items I found nice previously!

Also, I'm not the punk-ish type. I would buy my other accessories at "girl-ier" shops like Diva.

Nothing much?

A few years back, 77th street is really popular and now, I don't know if it died down or I got older and my taste change. Or maybe both. In the past, it is like a trend, secondary school students would hang out and just go shop at 77th street, whether it is to get a birthday present for a friend, or to get something for yourself or just to window shop.

But now, it seems that nobody talks about it anymore, maybe once in a while when you pass by 77th street you would just have a passing thought about it and that's it. Their items are pretty normal to me, there's nothing that is especially appealing. Though I think some youngsters still go there for piercing and patronize their stores, it definitely died down quite a bit.
