I learnt manual driving at BBDC 4 years ago but I can still remember my experiences there vividly, perhaps it is due to the fact that I could not wait to pass my driving!

Registering was a breeze and the staff were patient in explaining how everything worked, for instance, how to book a practical lesson, how the instructors were allocated and so on. Going for a lesson was easy too. All you had to do was book a session online and on the day itself, you just had to go to one of the booking machines and print out a booking slip.

There is a canteen next to the waiting area where you can buy some snacks/food while waiting for your lesson to start. However, that made the air-conditioned place a bit smelly, with an oily smell lingering in the air.

The instructors are very professional in teaching you all the driving skills and will ensure you are competent in executing a certain driving move before allowing you to learn more.

I would highly recommend anyone who is caught between wanting to take private lessons or going to a driving school, to sign up at a driving school. It is much easier to book your practical lessons and the instructors there will prepare you according to how the real practical test will be carried out. I passed on my first try which was a huge relief! It cost me about $1.2k for all my driving lessons, driving test and misc expenses.

At first I was quite intimidated at how the theory system works, but once I took my BTT, I understood their intentions; because TP employs a Computerized Theory Test (CTT) system, where you take the theory test using a touchscreen monitor, I realized what BBDC wanted is to simulate you as close as you can to the CTT (to the point where they also hired the same company who also built the CTT to develop their practice/evaluation system), using touchscreen monitors and answer explanations during practice to better understand the reasons behind the answer to a question. I flunked my first evaluation for basic, but after investing in 2-3 more practices, I passed my evaluation, headed straight for BTT and got full marks. I would actually head back there just for the FTT for my Class 3 in the future, as I am well-versed into the practice/evaluation system, despite the travel (I live on the east side, but public transportation isn't really an issue for me)
Practical wise, the instructors are very detailed about their requirements plus tips and tricks to accomplish what they wanted for the practical lesson, before you can move on to the next stage. Many of them are very nice and are willing to put the extra mile to ensure you get the best training experience.
Remember, driving license is not a "save-as-much-as-you-can", you would rather be investing in practices (theory, practical) to get better scores and fewer demerit points for your tests. Yes, money is a big factor when you are taking your license, but cutting corners ain't gonna work. I learnt that when I didn't book for a Revision Circuit and was a few points away from having to retake my 5.02, which is a circuit evaluation before you can hit the road subjects.
One more tip, regardless driving or riding, have some patience, both towards your instructor and the traffic, inside or outside; the circuit can get traffic holdups at some point, but take the time (if you are driving), to clarify with your instructor on your burning questions regarding anything, that'll boost your learning experience.
Just a gripe would be the previously-mentioned circuit size, but I'm fine with it, since I am already too used to holdups like these.

I went to BBDC to sign up as a private candidate but was convinced to sign up as a student under the school. This is one of the worst decision I ever made in my life and I wish to share with more people. I hope no one else made the mistake as I do.
Cons:
• Compulsory 4 theories lessons that you have to go through which are redundant and time wasting.
• Compulsory theory evaluation test to pass before you can take the test from the TP. After I passed my BT evaluation, I was horrified to know that there is only 1 slot left in the next available 2 months.
• Long waiting time before you can book practical lesson. You have to wait for 1 months to start practical lesson after you pass BTT. (You may try to login frequently to book slots that are cancelled by others. Again, it consumes time.)
• If you do not opt for a fixed instructor, you will get different instructors each time round. Different instructors have different teaching styles, with some having poor command of English. If you are unlucky, you might get an instructor who is old and cranky and will reprimand you through the entire journey even if you apologise. Many horrors stories have can be found online and it's all your luck which instructor you might encounter. To be fair, some instructions are down to earth, nice and patient.
• For fixed group scheme, you have to top up $3.21 for each lesson on top of the existing expensive price for the lessons. And when you opt for that, you get instructors from your fixed group which consist of 10 different instructors. Once again, with different teaching style.
• Above all these situation, there could be system error when you do your booking. I made a cancellation to one of my booking and the system did not register that cancellation and I was charged for “no show”. In another occasion, I made a booking which was not registered and had a rude shock after I went down for the lesson. I went to the customer service and was directed to write a handwritten report about the event after which you will get a standard reply “we cannot accede to your request”. Just remember, in any situation as such, you will be wasting time and money at BBDC.

Pros:
• Lessons are well structured but unnecessary as many are repeated.
• Some instructors are very respectful and nice but remember, luck factor is high.
• High passing rate because the school will make you go through many lessons and compulsory test before you can take any test.

I will be withdrawing my membership from the school soon and would have already wasted quite a lot of money. For anyone going to learn out there, I will urge you to rethink before joining BBDC.

Overall, it was a bad learning experience for me. First of all, you are required to take theory lessons which are honestly useless for me, I could just read up the theory in the highway code handbook. Secondly, to book your Basic or Final theory tests, you first have to pass an evaluation test, which is basically a mock test..... I failed the Final theory evaluation twice and decided to give up as some questions asked in the evaluation aren't even in the highway code. In the end, I withdrew and took lessons from a private instructor instead and passed my TP within 2 months on the first try. If I had not switched to private, I will probably still be stuck in BBDC.

It really doesn't help that this place is located in the west and I in the east. Travelling there (without a car, obviously) is a really long journey, both ways.

From what I've heard prior to booking classes, the lessons were really boring and pointless and the course took really long to complete. Since I already had low expectations, I was not disappointed. I was, certainly, looking for a better place to put my money though. It was, honestly, a waste of time.

Go private, if you haven't already. Although the driving courses are different from the ones used in the test, it is much cheaper and takes a much shorter time to get to the actual exam and drive. I do have plans to withdraw and go to a private instructor.

Bukit Batok Driving Centre is rather conveniently located at Bukit Gombak MRT station. Though it is quite a long walk from the MRT station to the driving school itself, Bukit Batok Driving Centre do offer a free shuttle service from the mrt station to the driving centre.

Before enrolling at Bukit Batok Driving Centre, I was contemplating between taking up lessons with a private instructor as it is cheaper and do not have to go through that hassle of booking lessons. However, I decided to enroll with Bukit Batok Driving Centre as the rate of passing was higher.

I got back the same instructor for all 30+ lessons that I had in Bukit Batok Driving Centre even though I did not pay extra money to have the same instructor. He was rather strict at first but gradually I warmed up to him. It took me only about 20 lessons before he told me that I was ready for test and before i knew it, my test was in 3 weeks time. I was told that most people had to wait up to 2-3 months for their driving test. So I not too sure why I could book mine in such a short period of time. I guess I am lucky.

I passed my driving test on first try and I would definitely recommend Bukit Batok Driving Centre to those who want to learn driving. Even though you pay more, the results show and it is more systematic.

I chose this driving centre because it is near my house. I remembered my first lesson where the assigned instructor introduced me to the different parts of the car. I was certainly nervous and shy but he was patient and approachable.

Over the next few lessons, I slowly warmed up to him and it reduced my fears in controlling the car. It must have been his humor and teaching methods that improved my driving skills. He also took the trouble to have a driving lesson at the famous "99 turns" road near south buona vista/pasir panjang area and let me practise driving around the step curves. It was no surprise that I passed my driving test at the first attempt after the practice and guidance.

I realize that Bukit Batok Driving Centre is popular with young learners for some reason, I've never been able to figure out why exactly. I find the circuit old and long, and overcrowded most of the time. The vehicles used there are new and seem a bit too modern for the old and sometimes bumpy circuit.

The instructors there, however, have a lot of knowledge to impart. Experienced and calm, they always handle learners gently, and there're seldom horror stories of nasty and brutal instructors coming out from BBDC.

Overall it's a good place to learn driving, but something needs to be done about the bumpy circuit and the outer appearance of the place as a whole.

I am currently in the midst of pursuing my Class 3 driving license. Having studied in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Bukit Batok Driving Centre (or BBDC as it is more commonly known by) is located very near my school, and it is extremely convenient for me to swing by either before or after school for a lesson.

It is famed amongst locals for having the best passing rates of all the driving centres in Singapore. Therefore, it is safe to assume that BBDC has more students as compared to the rest of the centres elsewhere. You can often find polytechnic and junior college students as well as NSFs here.

I took my driving lessons with them almost 10 years ago. Back then the building was not as fantastic looking as now. However, the quality of the coaches were good.

Training there was arranged in stages. And a trainee can only advanced to the next stage if the coach is satisfied that you have done well for the current stage. This includes lessons for basic theory which the lecturers would go through with the trainees especially for those who were using Mandarin to take the test.

When I first started to learn the practical, I was pretty nervous and the coach told me to relax and take things slowly. He was friendly and did not shout at me when I caused the car to "die" in the middle of the circuit. He patiently explained what I should and should not do. The circuit was easy to do, especially when there are hidden tricks behind each station. For the actual drive on the road, it was another challenge, but the coach just told me to relax and drive the way I did on the circuit. But the most important thing he told me was that getting a license did not meant that I could speed like a racer, it simply meant that I have the basic skills to drive and I would still need to be careful. Cheers to his advice :)
