There is nothing much to this review except GO GET THE CHEE CHEONG FUN. How clever of them to have the chee cheong fun in BBQ sauce replete with shallots and spring onions!

The liu sha baos are disappointing, not even half as decent as the ones from swee choon. But 126 is not the place for liu sha baos anyway. Come for those amazing drinks they fill up in tupperwares and the amazing list of dim sums they have compiled in that file folder.

Sadly the menu is really poorly done but the infamous cranky uncle waiter will have you know that he doesn't really care about your lack of dim sum knowledge. You're lucky to get through your ordering without so much as getting a TSK from him. But take heart, everybody else is pretty friendly though!

I don't usually crave dim-sum, but when I do, it's 126 that I crave.

This is my favourite dim-sum shop in Singapore and the best part: it's opened 24/7! The chee cheong fun is glorious, and I really mean GLORIOUS. The sauce that accompanies the chee cheong fun is so perfect I savour every bit of it to the very last drop. It is unlike any other chee cheong fun that I have eaten! Another must-try is chicken wrapped in paper (zi bao ji). The tender chicken meat is perfectly marinated and leaves a lingering taste in your mouth. The porridge is another hot favourite over there - pun intended.

Nevertheless, this place doesn't have the best service and is rather cramped. But I guess this is what I like about 126 - it is an unpretentious eatery that serves truly unique dim-sum.

P.S: the menu is in Mandarin but they have images to accompany almost all of their dishes so no frets :)

There are two dim sum places that I visit regularly - Swee Choon and 126. They are both good at what they do and have dishes that they do best. For 126, I highly recommend the yam balls and porridge on top of the standard dim sum must-haves such as har gaus and siew mais. The ambience here is rather noisy and dark (you will most likely be seated outdoor beside the road during peak hour/ supper time). The waiters are not the friendliest one around so just quickly write down the number code of the dishes you want and hand it to them at the shopfront instead of waiting for them to come around. Portion of the drinks are huge so it would be better to share.

Onto the fried yam balls... these are the best I've ever eaten. I've eaten few yam balls but I don't think anywhere else can do it better than 126!! It's always served piping hot. It's so so crispy on the outside and when you get into the middle of the ball, there is a savoury meat filling that complements the yam ball so well... You will not be able to stop at one. I usually have 2-3 at one go and I have to stop myself otherwise I would develop a sore throat the next day for sure. The porridge here is smooth and silky, it has a close resemblance to the Cantonese style porridge. It's simple fare but not many places can do it as well as them. Prices are really affordable as well. Highly recommend for dim sum and supper!!!!

I have never loved another dim sum place more.

I thought Crystal Jade was king till I came here.

I was on my xiao long bao phase and I ended up here thanks to a darling friend who offered to drive me there. And it was the happiest night ever.

There was a queue but we waited patiently and we were checking out the menu and decided we had to have everything so we did!

We waited for about 20 minutes and subsequently ordered everything small on the menu. Xiao long baos and custard buns and siewmais and everything but the porridge. Which is a shame now that I think about it.

And it arrived so quickly (thank you god).

The xiao long baos were better than Crystal Jade's. The siewmai were better than Swee Choon's. Everything here feels like they're on a competition to be better than their dim sum counterparts and GUESS WHO WON!

Their drinks portion are huge for a above average price but it is absolutely necessary. The food's great, the drinks' are just nice, my god this place is where I would live in if I knew they wouldn't throw me out.

I will be back one day.

Dim Sum is my favorite and 126 is one of the best that I have come across! To top it up, they are opened almost 24hrs everyday! They have almost everything you want for dim sum, be it early in the morning for breakfast or late at night for supper. And the price is quite reasonable~

They are located at the Geylang where all the good foods are supposed to be located. However, you can find 2 types of crowds in Geylang, just ignore the non-good-goers and everything will be pleasing to the eyes. The traffic there is quite bad, it’s a one-way street so you often has to go a few rounds before you get to park by the roadside. Otherwise, you may have to cross opposite for parking.

Since 126 operates 24 hours, this is the perfect supper place! Don’t be surprised to see a full house even at 4am. That is how popular this place is — that is, teeming with hungry late night goers. The interior is not huge so you might find yourself squashed between your friends.

The menu is rather comprehensive. The must order items for me are prawn dumplings, chee cheong fun (char siew fillings are very flavourful), fried banana fritters and their porridge! I would say that their fried items are really their best offering. Service is really slow but I guess they have the ‘prerogative’ to do so, since the place is almost always filled to the brim.

Getting here is a little tricky especially if you do not drive so I suggest cabs.

Many of my friends visit this place for supper and rave about it being affordable yet delicious. Being a foodie, I definitely had to visit this place.

I went down on a Saturday afternoon with a friend for a late brunch. It was about 2 pm and the place was packed and with a long queue. We spent about 30-45 minutes queuing up under the hot afternoon sun. While queuing, we had a lot of time to watch the staff and we realised that they reuse the plastic bowls that they serve drinks in. eeeewww... First of all, serving drinks in plastic bowls just doesn't feel right. Secondly, they are just plastic bowls! Just throw them away once the customers are done with it! Thirdly, perhaps it is the way they were dumped into a pail containing some sort of liquid at the front of the shop. It just doesn't feel very hygienic.

Anyway, when we were finally seated, they lacked menus to hand to us. A family at a neighbouring table kindly handed us the menu after they had decided what to order.

Ordering was a pain as well, we were desperately trying to get their attention while the staff kept rushing about.

The food was so-so, sizes were small, probably to accommodate the low pricing of the food, and the walls and air-conditioner were old and slightly dirty.

My friend claims that I did not order the right dishes but taking into consideration the settings of the place, the poor service and the slightly unhygienic vibe the place gave me, I doubt I will ever head back again.

Great place for affordable dim sum

The dim sum served at 126 is reasonably priced and favourful, coupled with a smorgasbord of dishes, ranging from crab roe siew mai, har gao(prawn dumplings), char siew pao to the succulent chicken feet. Eating here would always be a delight as the wide variety of selections would certainly satisfy your cravings for dim sum.

If you are looking for relatively good dim sum and yet you are under a tight budget, 126 would not disappoint. Although my take is that the dim sum places in Singapore still falls short behind their Hong Kong counterparts, the food in 126 is pretty authentic and worth a try given the affordable prices.

126 is one of my all time favourite supper places in the east. They have got a huge variety of food there, ranging from dim sum to tze char to desserts. The seating area is rather small and packed especially during breakfast time on weekends. Parking may be difficult for those who drive as you may have to park a few lanes away and walk a distance. Albeit slightly inaccessible, it is definitely worth to make a trip over to 126!
Their chee cheong fun is different from most dim sum places. The unique sauce they use is a mixture of sweet and salty which is very delightful. The other dim sum dishes were good and fresh too. It is a good thing that their serving is small, allowing us to order different types of dishes to share. Price wise, very pocket friendly hence making it my favourite supper place.

Highly raved by friends, this is really a place that doesn’t disappoint. Think yummy dim sum with its fair share of oil.

The first time I had it was a takeaway by a friend who went to 126 for supper before meeting me. He specially ordered the fried glutinous chocolate balls and it was oh so good! The dim sum when brought to me were already cold (it survived a freezing cold car trip), but the chocolate in the middle was still slightly warm and flowy! And the glutinous exterior was so well done. Even though cold, it retained its chewy texture and mouth feel, making it an absolute guilty pleasure at 1am in the morning.

Now we shall talk about some nice hot dim sum. No, I don’t have anything in mind. If you were to ask which dish is a must order, I would not have any one specific dish to recommend. The dishes are really all so good! Order a few steamed ones like the crab roe siew mai, chickens feet and ribs. Get a few fried dishes like the shrimp rolls (one of the rare fried foods that I don’t mind eating) and really you are good to go. If you love your desserts, do save room for that. I always don’t order desserts till the end cos I have this ‘ability’ of overestimating my stomach space. Oh and do order the drinks! You will be surprised at the presentation and the portions (in a good way)
