The truth is, you could pay me in Lao Ban and I would be a very very happy girl. Just the thought of that silky, cold, sweet beancurd sliding down my throat is giving me goosebumps, I need my fix now!

Other than Lao Ban of course, this hawker centre has plenty more to offer. Like any other hawker centre, you get your usual stuff like noodles, fried rice yada yada. But there's something about Old Airport Road that is different from other hawker centres. I feel like there's almost an infectious energy in the air and I love walking around and counting the number of containers of Lao Ban people have bought.

Needless to say, the prices here are super affordable, being a hawker centre and its a great place to bring friends and family, especially if they're new to Singapore!

Old Airport Road Hawker Centre has always been held dear to my family's heart as it is always a place for us to have simple local foodfare.

However, prices have risen and some stores do not offer that affordable food anymore compared to other hawker stores. In addition, it's getting increasingly crowded on weekends compared to two years back so I would advise you to go early perhaps 5pm.

Some stores I would recommend you to try:

1. Lao Fuzi Char Kway Teow

Always always a long queue here so be prepared!

2. Holy Grill

If I'm not wrong I read online that this store originates from the TKGS canteen, before owners decided to shift it to Old Airport Road!

3. Whitley Road Big Prawn Noodles

Extremely love the soup as it's quite flavourful, portion wise it's not exactly huge so if you have a big appetite, this isn't what you should crave for.

4. Tong Kee BBQ Chicken Wing

I remember the price rose by around $0.20 per chicken wing and portions became much smaller :( but if you're going for quality, this is the right place to go! Quality assured, I've been patronizing the store since forever.

What I wouldn't recommend is the Toa Payoh Rojak. For ages many have been telling me to go try it, and it was a huge disappointment. (This was two years back, never tried it ever again. The store opening hours are inconvenient too.) There was only a lady serving and she was incredibly slow. Rojak quality wasn't amazingly good, just average. And portion was selfishly little.

Food isn't hard to find in Singapore, good food is. Good food all in one place? That's something magical. Old Airport Road has been somewhat a constant destination for food since my parents are always crazy over the Lor Mee. Yellow noodles cooked to perfection and served in a savoury bowl of dark sauce and accompanied with vinegar, sambal chilli and chopped garlic. I don't really enjoy the long queues for it though.

Whenever my friends and I are having trouble thinking of a suitable dinner spot, Old Airport Road tends to pop into mind. Affordable prices and a large variety of good food like Char Kuay Teow, Prawn Noodles, Oyster Omelette as well as Western Food just to name a few. The appearance of Lao Ban and 51 soybean curd in recent years only made the place more enjoyable to visit.

Love the carrot cake!

I visited this place with friends recently, and I tried the carrot cake. (First floor near the bean curd shops.) I could actually literally see the lady preparing the carrot cake in the stall. The food was steaming when I took it back to my table and ate it. It was absolutely delicious and fresh! The chilli was perfectly blended into the cake.

There was virtually no oil in the dish and four dollars for a considerably large plate. I also had the 51 Soyabean Curd and which was cooling but slightly powdery. There’s a very cute bakery opposite the drinks stall on the first floor. It sells animal-shaped pineapple tarts and delicious muffins. Although the place is rather rundown, it’s definitely a place I’ll continue to visit for comfort food. I suggest people visit the place in the late afternoon on a weekday when business is rather slow, even the soybean shops!

This food centre is easily accessible via public transport! I patronised more often especially after MRT Circle Line was introduced. It is within a 5 minute walking distance from Dakota MRT station.

With previous experience visiting the famous old airport road food centre, I reached around 2pm to skip the noon and evening crowd. That is the best time to take a good look at the great variety of food available.

I daresay most of the food are above average. However, the Albert Street prawn noodles is a must-try! It offers several combination of pork ribs, pig liver, pig intestines and prawns. The best part is any combination would taste like heaven! I ordered a mid size portion and it was indeed satisfying, Coupled with a sugar cane drink, the trip was definitely worthwhile. The price pretty was reasonable for such delicacy!

Best Food Place In SG

I'll have to admit that Old Airport Road consists of the best foods in Singapore, and one of the biggest as well. The queues at the stalls of this hawker is always so long at dinner times, but everyone still queues up anyway because the food is worth the wait.

Even though it was years ago when I first went to airport road, I still remember the fried oyster with egg and the hokkien mee that I ate in that hawker centre. Under the sweltering heat, a huge cup of sugar cane juice coming at only $1(at that time), and a plate of hokkien mee priced at $2-$3, I sat along the first row of the hawker, wondering when's the next time I'll get to eat it again.

However, the hawker has seats inbetween the rows of stalls, that are not sheltered. These seats are often either very hot, or are wet with the rain. That is something that I find seemingly disturbing.

Yes, indeed! I really do like the wide variety of food at the Old Airport Road Food Centre. Being food lovers, my family simply loves visiting the different food centres for the best local delights in Singapore. And we enjoy being food enthusiasts.

We simply love the Lao Fu Zhi fried kway teow and Xin Mei Xiang Lor Mee, which are without doubt, always of long queues. Then again, good things are worth the wait, aren't they? Who can resist those lip-smacking and simply heavenly dishes?

I have to say that one doesn't necessarily need to spend a bomb just to be able to enjoy the best food around.

I visited Old Airport Food Centre once and since then, I have returned many more times to enjoy the goodness of the food. There are simply too many different stalls(western food, dim sum, tauhuey and many more) and i don't know where to start! Each time i visit the hawker centre, i look forward to trying new food, and it is hard to be disappointed by the food!

Newcomers take note! You may be taken aback by this. One thing that caught me about this place was that although there were many different stores, most of them sold the same food. For example, there are many stalls selling your local favourites such as char kway tiao and hokkien mee.

Although i have not tried all of the food there, i believe that they are of satisfactory standard considering that the food centre is always packed whenever i visit it. That, however, tends to make navigating and browsing through hawker stalls a more time-consuming process. All in all, i like this place very much and have brought many friends here who shared the same sentiments with me after their visits.

I wouldn't normally order prawn noodles when I eat out, but when my friend bought it for me at old airport road, I instantly love it.. Their prawns are really huge! Most importantly their soup is flavorful, it might be a bit salty for some though but it has the taste of prawns. There are more than one prawn noodle store there and I would recommend the one that is near a chicken wing store :)

As for the famous lao ban tau huey I think it is a little overrated. To me it doesn't have the traditional taste nor the soy bean taste. And with the long queue, I wouldn't go to old airport road just for lao ban.

Overall I think Old Airport Road is still a great place to dine in since it is so much larger and less crowded than other popular places like chompchomp. Moreover, there's so much stalls there that you will bound to find something you love :)

I have been eating at this hawker centre since I was in primary school, and till today, the popular stalls like char kway teow, wan ton noodle, otak, BBQ chicken wings, kway chap, oyster omelette etc are all still there.

These days the draw is probably the popular Lao Ban Dou Hua which has various stalls all over the food centre. You just can't miss it! I have ever been tasked by friends just to go there to take away more than 20 boxes of dou hua for a friend's house party!

Parking can be a headache on weekends even with the multistorey and open carparks behind so I prefer going there on weekdays.
