Living in Singapore makes us hard to avoid the inevitable hectic and busy lifestyle. Personally as a student, I would try to spend minimal amount of my time to eat so that i get enough time to complete my never ending homework.

Subway is an excellent choice for a place to eat if you are rushing for time and yet wishes to have a filling meal. There is a wide variety of ingredients to choose for your sandwich like choice of vegetables, choice of sauce , they offered combo meals too which are very appealing to us students.

However, I do have a bad experience once in Subway too. The staff actually misheard the type of sandwich that I wanted and I ended up paying for it reluctantly. Perhaps this is because they have such a big variety of ingredients it confuses them sometimes. I recommend people who wishes to eat at Subway to speak loud and clear to the staff so that such a bad experience of me would not happen again to the others.

A healthier choice

As a student, Subway presents a relatively affordable option for lunch especially with their attractive student meals. The sandwich artists are also very friendly and approachable, each time I order a sandwich, they patiently explain the different between each type of bread when I ask them. Although admittedly, in my head it is simply a game of "eeny meeny miny moe" as my taste buds fail to detect the subtle insignificant difference between each type of bread.

The customisation part is my favourite as I am a picky eater that absolutely hates pickles. Overall, Subway leaves a pleasant experience.

Subway is a fast food chain that could be found in most shopping centres. In Junior College times, I remember my friend bringing me to Subway for the first time. I was quite apprehensive initially, as I am dubious of how a sandwich full of vegetables can actually taste good? But am I glad for my friend's introduction to Subway, because ever since then I fell in love with it! Every time I feel like having a healthy plus delicious meal, I will definitely choose Subway!

In Subway, it works such that you move down the queue slowly, as you choose the kind of bread, the kind of sandwich, whether you want it toasted, vegetables and sauces in order. There is quite a variety of sandwiches available and my favourites are Cold Cut Trio, Egg Mayo and Subway Melt! You can also request for more cheese and meat with additional top-up of $1 or so. Set meals are available too, where you can add on a drink and 2 cookies or a pack of chips. Recently, they brought in yogurt too so you can also choose that to add on to your set meal. If you are a student, then you are in for a good deal. Students can enjoy student meals in the noon, where set meals only cost around $4.90 to $5.90 when normal meals cost around $7 to $9.

However, I find that most Subway outlets do not have a lot of seats available. It would be perfect if there are more seats as eating sandwiches is a messy affair and one cannot simply eat as he walks (for me at least). So, eat fresh now and get your veggies fix here!

A cookie monster would love to bring boxes of cookies back home from Subway.

For cholesterol-seeking individual like me, will shun Subway as much as I could or pick at the veggies and dump them as far as I can.

Not that Subway is bad, but it’s very nutritional! More meat fillings please!

Parmesan Bread has always been my all-time favourite and 6” is more than enough.

Thank GOD there’s a choice to cast the veggies way and command more meat and cheese. Mixing sauces is also one of the fun processes before you witness the grilling of the bread in a few minutes before it gets whisked away at the counter to meet the cookies.

Add $2.70 to complete the meal with cookies or chips.

My meal usually cost around $9.70.

Not quite justifiable for mere bread. However, the freshness and nutritional quality of the meal does make some sense into extra dollars and cents.

It’s really tasty and filling! The two cookies are usually leftover for tea breaks.

Go for this if you are on a health diet.

Good choice for a "diet" meal

I've always liked Subway for the fact that it provides a "healthier choice" as compared to the rest of the fast food joints in Singapore. Although it may be slightly overpriced (a meal which consists of a sandwich, two cookies and a drink could set you back by about $7 on average), I've always enjoyed my Subway meal so to me, it's money well spent.

My all time favourite would be the cold cut trio on a hearty italian, with lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber, and honey mustard as my sauce. One piece of advice, though: even though Subway is known as a healthier choice as compared to other fast food joints, the cookies are definitely not in the least bit healthy. As much as I love the cookies (my favourite being the white chip macademia nut), I try to refrain from having them because they contain so much sugar/fat/what-have-yous that would leave me feeling guilty the whole day through after the meal.

The meatball marinara sandwich is also worth a try, but do be careful - it might get a little messy because of the marinara sauce.

The downside of Subway is that there aren't as many outlets all around Singapore, and many of their outlets are so small that it's hard to find a seat even when it's not the peak period.

Subway is one of those places where it's really conducive to study and definitely one of the fast food restaurants that offer healthier food. To me the best part about subway is its offer of various vegetables. Being able to taste the crunchiness and freshness of my favorite vegetables in every bite of the deliciously wrapped sandwich is just perfect.

Not to forget, those chewy and mouth-watering cookies! My fav flavor would be the oatmeal raisin as the oats give a chewy sensation accompanied with a burst of sweetness from the raisins.

Subway would be a good place for you if you want a healthy and fuss-free meal at cheaper prices!

The food at Subway is always fresh, and made-to-order in front of you. You get to see the whole process to ensure what you are eating is what you are looking at. My personal favourite would be the Cold Cut Trio meat sandwiched in between Hearty Italian bread drizzled with honey mustard and sweet onion sauce. The portion of meat cuts is definitely generous! The meal is priced at $5 all-day along with other featured flavors. You get a 6-inch sub with a regular-sized drink. You can add a dollar to get a cookie of your choice, a cup of yogurt or a packet of mini-sized chips. You also get to choose which vegetables you wish to have more or which you wish to have less or none The type of bread and the type of sauces. Mixing of two or more sauces is also allowed. It is as flexible as it gets.

Together with a drink, you can choose between cookies or chips to complete the meal. I always choose cookies as their soft, moist and chewy cookies are right up my alley. My favorites are the oatmeal raisin flavour and white chocolate macadamia nut flavour.

The whole atmosphere is very inviting. The wafting smell of the toasted bread, the fresh smells of cookies and the whole color coordination of the place. The service personnel are also courteous and clean-up the place promptly. The whole process of making the sandwich might take a little longer than your usual fast-food but the whole process of customization is one that is greatly appreciated and liked by many.

Healthy fast food

Subway is a fast-food concept whereby part of the experience is literally 'building' your choice sandwich. Unlike many fast-food restaurants where you simply order and go, in Subway, you exercise the freedom of choice by deciding which bread, what condiments and which veggies you would like in your sandwich! For those who abhor pickles or onions, here's your chance to totally leave it out of your sandwich without the person behind the counter rolling her eyes at your for ordering 'plain'.

They have a wide variety of choices, my favourites being the Cold Cut Trio and Chicken Breast! I love the freedom of being able to leave out mayonnaise and have sweet onion instead. The toasted bread is always extremely tasty. Despite not being a fan of breads and cookies, I found myself going back for more. It's good!

I'd suggest ordering out though, for the Subway outlets are more often than not, cramp and crowded. Also, it's always a messy affair eating a Subway sandwich, with bits and pieces of toppings falling out with each bite. Not a glamourous choice for a first date as well!

As a veggie hater, I could never understand why would anyone pay a price that is higher than average fast food to eat vegetables. My first order at Subway was a cold cut trio, a poor suggestion on my friend’s part since I disliked vegetables. A lot. It was then that my impression of Subway was formed, and it wasn’t good in any way at all.

Somehow, I had the chance to try their tuna and that bad impression took a 180-degree turn. It was surprisingly delish! My favourite bread was the Hearty Italian for the slight crust. But still, my visits to Subway were not that frequent.

That one moment when I decided that I would be a loyal customer to Subway was the day I took the plunge to go on a diet. Subway was after all supposed to be healthy, right? I went for their grilled chicken breast, with lettuce (Each time when I just ask for lettuce, I am secretly afraid of being judged. Ha!) and sweet onion sauce (minimal calories, how very apt). The bread of choice would be wheat. Total calories would be about 350 calories, which was reasonable for a meal portion.

Till date, the habit remains. I would go for Subway if I am having one of my Feel Fat days. Service is more often than not prompt and efficient.

Subway, currently known for being the only fast food restaurant that is still promoting healthy eating, is one of my favourite. If you want a quick yet relatively healthy meal, heading towards the counter of Subway is the right thing to do!

The concept of letting the customers choosing what sauce, vegetables and bread they prefer to complement their meal is a great! It is just like a DIY (do-it-yourself) factor, but this time it is for food. If i were to recommend to any of my friends the first sandwich they should try in Subway, it would be the Cold Cut trio. Compared to the others of the classic segment, i think that the Cold cut trio is more value for money, as it has meat + vege, a balanced diet. The rest are great too and so are the cookies, freshly baked everyday in subway. i personally prefer the double chocolate chip cookies! As for the bread, the hearty italien bread is great and not too hard on the teeth even after being toasted.

In addition, the service of the staff there are quite good. They are polite, efficient in the food preparation and very friendly. The best part is, Subway has combos that are reasonably priced and cost the same as most fast food restaurants' combos. So why not take an occasionally break from those burgers and head doen to Subway for a healthy meal?
