I have 2 sinful indulgences. They are potato chips and chocolates. I simply love them.

So, can you imagine my delight and to my husband’s horror, when I happened to come across a pack of Royce Potato chip Chocolate given by one of my dear best friend as a birthday gift. I simply love the lightly salted crunch of the potato chips and the warm cocoa melting on your tongue as you savor the flavor of the chocolate. It’s like you’re floating on Cloud 9.

And the only way I could ever stop myself from eating this was when my husband pinched my bottom really hard.

Ouch!

This is definitely not your regular off the shelf chocolate. The moment the chocolate enters your mouth it melts into a sinfully rich and creamy liquid, the smoothness of the cocoa butter fuses with the strong cocoa tast to make a perfect piece of treat.

They also sell a chocolate potato chip, which is the ultimate desire of any junk food addict, chocolate and chips are combined into one sweet yet slightly salty snack.

All these goodies come at quite a price, a box of chocolates could easily set you back $15. Their service at the outlets I have visited so far is good in a way that the staff attends to you fully and caters to your needs, but in turn that makes service efficiency a little on the downside.

The moment I walked in the almost pure white Royce outlet at ION Orchard, I could already guess the value of their prices tags without looking. The decor of the store is slick, simple and classy - just what you would expect of a shop selling chocolate at the price of average $10-$15. Royce's target audience is clearly more of the high to mid range kind, but who says you can't indulge in quality chocolate once in while?

And the Royce chocolate is definitely quality chocolate! I literally drool every time I think of the melt-in-mouth goodness that is Royce! My personal favourite out of Royce's entire line of chocolate is the Nama Chocolate series and I absolutely recommend it to anyone with a bit more budget and soft spot for chocolate! It may seem unassuming with it's plain appearance, just cubes of chocolate sprinkled with cocoa powder, but it is COMPLETELY worth all those 15 bucks! From the initial taste of the bitter cocoa powder to the creamy, melting taste of the rich nama chocolate, it is bound to leave you craving for more!

Besides, the slick, simple and classy packaging that matches the store decor makes it a good gift for any occasion, be it Christmas or a birthday gift for a chocolate fanatic! My own friends were definitely happy to receive a box of Royce Nama Chocolate.

The only thing I have any complains about is the service at the store, particularly the ION Orchard outlet. Me and my friend had to hang around the counter for quite some time before the salesgirl meandered over to serve us. And the funniest thing was that we were the only patrons at the store! Perhaps it was because we were students and she assumed that we didn't have the budget for anything at the store. I do hope to see improvements regarding this the next time I visit that outlet!

Decadence in a square!
Overall Score

I have tried this chocolate pretty many times. However it was only one of their many products, but it was their specialty Nama chocolate which is essentially a truffle shaped in a block and cut into multiple pieces.

So far i've tried their green tea matcha and another dark chocolate nama chocolate and both were pure, creamy decadence. One square is enough to please one. Though the chocolates don't come cheap, once in a while luxury or as a christmas gift suits well too. The green tea truffles have a very strong taste of green tea which i was really happy with, not like some places which chocolates have nary a hint of matcha.

I had a box of Royce Dark Chocolate for birthday once and it was so addictive, I became addicted instantly. Each miniature square of chocolate is perfectly cut, dusted in cocoa powder, and melts sweetly in your mouth into a rich creamy, chocolatey texture.

I remember finishing the entire box within two days, and that was my best restraint at going to the fridge to just get one more of those tasty square sweetness!

I then tried to buy it after I have finished but it was too expensive, however, given how perfectly-made each box is, the price is completely worth the quantity. Royce's Dark chocolate would made perfect gift to anyone.

And that's pretty much all I see Royce as.

Must as I cringe giving chocolates to someone as a present, there are just times when I'm forced to buys stuff for people I don't like and what else is more pleasurable than buying them fattening food disguised under a perfect exterior!

I've always chosen Godiva or Lindt as my chocolate of choice. I remember it was at ION, I didn't know there was a supermarket on the top floor and assumed the place was too classy to have one, so I had to choose between awfullychocolate and Royce and I picked the latter.

I tried one when my friend opened the present and to me it's just really too overwhelming. I like the truffle-y taste of it but it's still much too rich for me. I'd take my Lindt back anyday.

Royce. No.

If you're going to get chocolates for someone's birthday gift, you can't do better than getting him or her a box of Royce. Royce Chocolate trumps the likes of Cadbury (and the likes of *ahem* Godiva and Lindt) any time. And your friend who gets a box of Royce from you will probably be delighted to know that he's worth more than the chocolates on the supermarket shelves (including Godiva and Lindt).

Now, about the chocolates, I highly, highly, recommend their Nama Chocolate series which, generally speaking, is rich, dense, creamy, and luxuriant, and which is perhaps Royce's best product. They have just the right chocolate for almost all kinds of chocolate lovers and which of the Nama Chocolate series is best for you will depend on your own personal tastes. If you have what I might call a "mature" palate, go for the dark, bitter variety or the ones with alcohol content. If, like me, you have kid's palate and a sweet tooth, go for their Au Lait or white variety. Personally, however, my favourite is the Matcha variety. I am a huge fan of Matcha. And, unlike many matcha-themed desserts, be it chocolates or ice cream, elsewhere, Royce's Matcha Nama Chocolate does not disappoint. Each neat square is a perfect combo of the characteristic creamy decadence of the regular Nama chocolate and the robust, unmistakable flavour of matcha -- its semi-sweetness, its hint of tannic bitterness, and its light floral quality. It's personally one of my favourite, most memorable Matcha-themed desserts and, if someone doesn't stop me, I might just down a whole box at a go.

the feeling of love

I am an ardent fan of chocolates and i absolutely adore Royce Pure Chocolate (Venezuela Bitter & Ghana Sweet) - i will never forget this and would always look out for this chocolate whenever I'm out shopping for Royce chocolates! The bittersweet taste of the chocolate is just divine and you could not help but crave for more of such indulgence.

The rich and flavourful chocolate taste would linger in your mouth until the final bit of chocolate has melted completely in your mouth and the thirst for chocolate will continue and the box of chocolates would be gone withing a few days. I have tried various types of dark chocolates but none had ever given that satisfaction that I really desired until Royce Chocolates came into my life. But chocolates are still a little high in calories regardless of whether the sugar level is lower than usual, so a little discretion is still required. A box of chocolates occasionally to satisfy your choc craving is definitely no problem!

The only time I get to eat Royce chocolate is when my mother receives them as gifts from her students. I had already heard of Royce chocolate from my Japanese teacher, who had been swooning over it during one of our lectures. How fortunate I was to be able to taste it not long after!

And it was indeed a taste to remember. Royce chocolate has one of the smoothest, silkiest and richest chocolatey tastes I have ever known. Although their chocolate looks simple, the taste and presentation is sophisticated. Passing by their stores at Orchard and City Hall, they have always looked clean and refined, making you feel that every cent is worth the product.

I would definitely keep it on my list of potential gifts for others or even myself in the future.

rich and savoury

There are many famous brands of chocolate all competing for business. However, Royce chocolate stands out in my memory. Founded in Sapporo, the company is dedicated to making good chocolate, and good chocolate it is. With various products, all crafted to near perfection, the consumer is spoilt for choice. The chocolate melts onto your tongue and is rich and savoury. The staff are also attentive and know their products well, a bonus (:

Alas, such chocolates come at a price, and is a rare treat. My first taste of this brand was a gift from a friend. One box can cost around $15, and every minute savoring this treat must be treasured.
