At Garrett Popcorn Shops, we’ve maintained our dedication to fresh, delicious popcorn since we first opened at 10 West Madison Street in Chicago. We continue to use only the highest quality ingredients from area producers as we handcraft our gourmet popcorn in old-fashioned copper kettles. We strive to deliver the same popcorn today that customers first talked about in 1949. What makes Garrett Popcorn so special? We hot air pop our signature blend of kernels, which we then mix into our secret family recipes. Every batch is handmade daily and the result is an irresistible snacking sensation, which has generated lines of historic proportions outside of our retail locations for decades. Our highest priority is to satisfy our customers’ cravings for great popcorn. When local fans asked for a mixture of sweet and salty, we created The Chicago Mix: a blend of our famous CaramelCrisp® and CheeseCorn™ recipes. It remains our most popular flavor and a consistent favorite throughout our entire fan base. Our year round menu also includes Plain, Buttery, Cashew CaramelCrisp®, Almond CaramelCrisp®, Pecan CaramelCrisp® and Macadamia CaramelCrisp®. Keep an eye out for our seasonal flavors from time to time as well. You never know what will pop up!
I have never had a sweet tooth, but even so, I could not resist giving it a try when they gave out a sample cup of their popcorn. The sample was a mix of caramel popcorn and cheese favoured popcorns. They seem to complement each other, the caramel being sweet whereas the cheese was more bland and cheesy. When my friend decided to buy a pack home, I decided to buy one back too since the small cup was too little and not satisfying.
One small pack was priced at $8. It might seem a little hefty for a pack of popcorn, but the amount in one small pack was certainly huge. If you are eating it alone, it sure is more than enough. You definitely cannot finish it all at one go, even if you have a sweet-tooth and love popcorn.
I brought home to share with my sister, but both of us did not have a sweet-tooth, and we could not even finish 1/4 of the whole pack. It was certainly much too sweet, and it gets overpowering after awhile. It's a good thing you can store it, so long as its stored in an air-tight container.
My verdict for this popcorn would be that unless you have a sweet-tooth and absolutely love desserts and sweet stuff like this, I think you'll, like me, prefer to stick to the old traditional mix of sweet and salty popcorns offered at the cinemas.
The only downside of these popcorns is that it is quite pricey. The smallest pack costs $8 per pack. $8 may seem extravagant spending when it's just spent on popcorns but they are too nice to resist! It is hard to stop yourself from popping them into your mouth, one after another. Furthermore, the popcorn combos sold at cinemas also cost around the same price. So why not get better quality popcorns instead? Plus their variety of popcorn is wider! They have cheese popcorn, caramel popcorn with nuts, butter popcorn etc. However, the popcorn is best to be shared amongst friends as the small pack is quite big! In fact, it is impossible to finish a pack in a day.
So... start popping these delicious crunchy popcorn into your mouth now! Head down to Garretts, which has recently opened more outlets in town areas, to grab these yummy little snacks now!
Their marketing gimmick of ensuring every human within a 100-metre radius gets a strong whiff of their Caramel Crisp actually works well - I soon find myself furtively asking for a sample of their Caramel Crisp with Macadamia and subsequently stuck in a dilemma of whether or not I should get a pack. The devil almost always wins. It’s hard to resist their crazy sweet popcorn, with extra crunchiness from the nuts!
The only flavor that thoroughly confuses me would have to be the CheeseCorn, which I find too salty and rich for my liking. Otherwise, the flavors here sufficiently satisfies the sweet tooth in me, though it may be a tad too sugary for most other people.
I love Garrett popcorn as it is the freshest popcorn one can get in Singapore. It tastes a lot better than cinema popcorn as it is crunchier and the flavour of popcorn is a lot more even - unlike cinema popcorn where there are sporadic tasteless popcorns. My favourite flavours are cheese and caramel as the taste is extremely rich. A word of caution though, the cheese popcorn is usually soft instead of crunchy, but tastes equally as good!
The main drawback is the price of the popcorn - a small bag of cheesecorn costs a whopping $7!
For about five bucks, you can purchase a small packet and it's definitely more than enough for one to snack on. You can have one all to yourself though, but it would leave you with a feeling that you'd get diabetes for dinner. My favourite flavour's caramel and I urge everyone not to ignore that sweet smell whenever you pass by Garrett!
Much to my disappointment. I really wasn't too happy with it. First of all, the prices were pretty steep considering how it's only popcorn. It's highly overpriced for a handful of popcorn.
Besides that, I wasn't too fond of the taste either. I had the cheese flavored pack and it was far too cheesy and it made my head throb. It tasted like the cheap like of cheese that they put on cheese crackers that you'd buy for a couple bucks.
I definitely can't walk past Garret's without buying something, because the tantalising smell just wafts around in the air and tempts me. It's a pity that most of the stores are clustered in the centre of Singapore, which means East-dwellers like myself only get out popcorn fix when we go into the city, a trip very worth making, in my opinion.
It's like the popcorn version of famous amos! You smell it even before you see it.
Yes you do have to pay quite an amount for a small bag of popcorns but trust me, it is worth the money- if you get the caramel flavoured ones (the nuts one too). Personally I do not like the cheese flavoured ones because it isn't crunchy at all. It's soft- like a bag of chips exposed to air. It is delicious and you can share it with a friend (that's about 4 dollars each). In fact you should share it with a friend so you won't feel jelat eating it. I think the price is reasonable even though it's for a small bag because too much of it makes you sick (literally too).
It's a must try. You just have to. No excuses. Even if you don't like popcorn, because my friend used not to like popcorn...... until he tried Garrett's.
No doubt Garret Popcorn has the best popcorn in town for it definitely beats those at the cinemas hands down. If you are a first timer, you would probably be spoilt for choice for there are alot of different combinations. I had the cheese and caramel popcorn (Chicago mix). Although we had gotten the smallest packet, but it was too much for two of us! The cheese popcorn was too overly-chessy. Sure it tasted really good but we kind of got sick of eating the cheese popcorn after awhile. However, the caramel popcorn was full of win! I totally love the caramel popcorn for it was so tasty, crunchy and what's not. It is definitely have-must.
For those are really concerned about their health, I would suggest that you do not eat too much of these popcorns for it gets really heaty after awhile! As for me, having to taste Garret Popcorn once would be a good enough experience. I probably wouldnt go back for more because the smallest package is just too much to finish!
First the taste. Garrett Popcorn appeals to consumers who love very sweet (caramel) and/or slightly more salty (cheese) popcorn. They also offer a mix of both, which makes it easier on your tongue as you are less likely to get bored of the flavour, and this makes you wanting to eat more.
Next the value. Although the popcorn comes with a hefty price, fear not as the size of the bag is relatively large even for the smallest option. It is definitely worth the price paid. Beware though, share it with your friend or you will definitely land yourself with a sore throat the next day.
Lastly the shop. The shop’s design is intricate and appealing to me, as well as the way the popcorn is displayed. Furthermore, the staff are very friendly and service-oriented. It is a pleasure to be served by them, making your experience of buying the popcorn something you want to do again.
All in all, do not regard what people say, and you should try Garrett Popcorn at least once and determine for yourself whether you prefer it.
I ordered the Chicago mix – a blend of caramel crisp and cheese corn to share with my friend and it was still too much for both of us as the packet is huge even for the smallest packaging. I like how the sweet and salty flavours complement each other really well. For each cheese corn that I eat, I would take two caramel crisps to even out the taste. First you get to savour the saltiness but it is too much so you cover it with the sweetness and just let the taste linger in your mouth, then crave for more of the unique mixture.
Although it is not bad and leaves you wanting more, at a point you would have to stop as it gets too heaty and dry. Nevertheless, you should give it a try. It is better to share with your friends, better value for money too.
I love the whole concept of the store. From the decor, to the popcorn holder, to the brand-design and of course, the popcorn itself!! They come in a wide array of flavors. My favorites are the Caramel flavored and the Cheese flavored. These two are mixed together and sold as 'The Chicago Mix', what a cute name! Of course, if you wish to purchase it separately, it is also available as well. For good ol' popcorn lovers, the butter flavored one could be your potential favorite. I always purchase the biggest bag of Chicago Mix to last me through study periods and stressful exam times. The saltiness of the cheddar combined with the sweetness of the caramel... enough said. You have to try it.
Nut lovers, rejoice! Four kinds of nut popcorn garnished with the real-deal nuts. Macadamia, cashew, pecan and almond. There's something you're bound to like. Eating this nut popcorn will definitely drive you nuts - in a good way of course. Before you know it, your fingers are grabbing for air in your popcorn tin and you're back in the queue for more Garrett.
This reminds me that I have to go back and stock up on my Chicago Mix and probably try the macadamia one as well.
