Our founders, Donald and Susan Sutherland, scoured the world in search of the perfect ice cream. Not surprisingly, they found that not all ice cream is created equal. From traditional hard-packed to soft serve varieties, until Donald and Susan pursued their "Ice Cream Dream"– we were stuck with some pretty disappointing alternatives. But after 1988 and the opening of the first Cold Stone Creamery in Tempe , Arizona , things changed. Through their will, determination and commitment to their dreams, the concept of the Ultimate Ice Cream Experience® was born. The Sutherlands fundamentally redefined ice cream and the world would never be the same. Cold Stone Creamery ice cream is categorized by industry experts as "Super Premium." Our ice cream is better because we make it fresh every day in every store, which puts Cold Stone completely in a class of our own. At Cold Stone Creamery, we are proud of our heritage as Ice Cream Innovators. This heritage is based on a tradition of continuously redefining plain old regular ice cream into something truly extraordinary. Around here, we call every ice cream we serve a "Creation" – because each one is a work of art. Freshly made, smooth, creamy ice cream blended on a frozen granite stone with endless combinations – fruits, nuts, candy, cookies, brownies…you name it – you can mix in to your heart's content. We take tremendous pride in Cold Stone's innovative heritage and culture. It's what makes us, well, us. Consider the first five words of our Mission Statement: “We will make people happy.” From the energetic Cold Stone Creamery crew singing your praises when they hear that “cha-ching” in the tip jar, to the laughter of a family enjoying an after-dinner treat – if it has to do with being happy, you'll find it at your local Cold Stone Creamery. Whether it's in our stores or in the halls of our world headquarter office, you'll see, smell, hear, and taste the excitement we have for what we do (especially when walking by the lab where our Tastemaster™ invents incredible new flavors of ice cream). Quite simply, making the best ice cream for the world to enjoy is our passion, and delivering happiness is our expertise. Today the Ultimate Ice Cream Experience® is enjoyed worldwide with more than 1,400 stores operating in the U.S. and several other countries including the United Arab Emirates , Japan , China , Korea and now, Singapore .

The service at Cold Stone Creamery is also excellent as they have selected staff that can maintain a cheerful disposition throughout the entire service schedule and they even sing songs sometimes! When I eat at Cold Stone, I would most certainly be perked up even if I was having a gloomy or stressful day. I enjoy coming here with my friends for a chit-chatting session or simply to while away time by myself.
The portion is also quite large and it is recommended to share with friends as even my two friends and I failed to finish a medium cup. We had mango in our mix and it was slightly sourish, yet complemented the sweetness of the ice cream.
I still feel that the ice cream quality is similar to other ice cream specialty shops though, and at the end of the day, my favourite is still Anderson’s. However I would choose Cold Stone for the ambience and the novelty of having your toppings blended into the mix.

Besides the Banana Caramel Crunch, there are so many other signature creations you can choose from. If you still can’t find anything you like from their selection, you can even create your own!
Although you’re able to DIY your own ice-cream, I tend to rotate around their Signature Creations just for safety. Having tried most of the creations on the menu, my ultimate favourite would have to be the Strawberry Banana Rendezvous, which is not as overly sweet as most of their chocolate creations. For the best experience, have your ice-cream served in a waffle-in-a-cup!
Having gone through some tossing and chopping, the ice-cream sits vulnerable against Singapore’s hot climate and melts very quickly. It shouldn’t pose a problem though, since you’ll find yourself gobbling it up within seconds!
Of course I can't write a review about Cold Stone without mentioning the incredible talent of the staff there. If you don't know already, not only is the stuff super friendly but they actually toss the ice cream from one side of the store to the other and the first time I went I was completely in awe of it.

For the people in Orchard Road, Cold Stone Creamery comes to mind. Located at the first floor of Orchard Central, it's hard to miss, especially with music blaring from the speakers. Cold Stone allows customers to pick from a selection of pre-made 'flavours' (ice cream with mix-ins) or to create their own. The concept is creative and is an attractive one. The ice cream flavours range from the classic; think vanilla, chocolate, etc, to newfangled ones such as mint and cake batter. If that wasn't enough, you get to mix in sweets like Oreo cookies or marshmallows.
A small gripe would be your resulting ice cream being too sweet but hey, that isn't too bad! Price would be a concern and Cold Stone Creamery would be given a run for its money by other ice cream parlours. However, which one can boast staff members that can flick a cricket ball sized scoop of ice cream from across the shop?

To be honest, I was quite puzzled on what to order, as the menu was full of different quirky and fun names, with many different types of add-ons. I went for Our Strawberry Blonde and Chocolate Devotion eventually. I was impressed by their act of mixing the different ingredients, ice-cream and add-ons together in front of the customers. It was quite an entertainment. Oh my, the staff must have practiced very hard to master those skills!
The Our Strawberry Blonde was very fruitful indeed. There’s an abundance of the real strawberries, unlike some other ice-cream shops which give very little of the real fruit. Together with the caramel, the overall taste was very sweet. It really satisfies people with a sweet tooth, like me. The Chocolate Devotion offered a different taste. The chocolate was very thick, such that it would please the chocolate lovers very much but leave the neutrals feeling tired of it half-way through. Also, the waffles were nicely done. They were crispy and rather addictive.
The service made me feel very welcome, and the ambience was great for chilling out in a hot afternoon.

Cold Stone ice cream tastes like bog-standard supermarket soft scoop. It is high on marketing gimmickry and low on flavour. What is the point of messing up the ice cream into an ungainly mush on some silly slab? The inflated prices are simply idiotic. This quality of ice cream is not worth $10.
Who would be fooled by this ridiculous scoop and poop scam? Oh yes... teenagers.

However, I honestly do think that the ice-cream is a little overrated. The signature creations are all very tempting to try but when I had their Oreo Overload and Banana Caramel Crunch, both tasted like something I could have easily done myself at home. I was also disappointed when I visited the store in CityLink Mall. The guy was so slow and bad at mixing it all in until it melted! It was an unpleasant experience for me that day.

However, their flavours attract me. They have so many different kinds of interesting flavours! Cookie dough, birthday cake batter, peanut butter with a load of other stuff.... Really really interesting.
The staff also seem to be thoroughly enjoying themselves when they work, shouting a string of words from time to time- words that I cannot make out or even if I could, I obviously do not remember. It makes the environment much more lively. I'd go there for the ambience (the one @ 313) but it's usually very crowded.

One fine day, I was walking past the shop again, this time rather late, about 9pm or so, and realised that there was no queue. My girlfriends kept insisting that I gave it a try, so we all went in. I remember ordering some chocolate flavour and was pretty amazed at how they made the mix of the ice-cream.
I was mostly amazed at how they could toss the scoop of ice-cream straight into the cup. The precision and accuracy astounded me. Other than that, I think the price is about the same as most fancy ice-cream stalls and that their ice-cream tastes pretty decent as well. It was a little bit on the sweet side for me, but then again, I don't really fancy sweet stuff. My bubble tea's sugar level are always at 25% and below.
I would visit the outlet again, when I feel the need to have some ice-cream as well as some entertainment.
I've been to the always jam packed outlet at Orchard Central a few times, but I'd like to talk about the lesser known branch at Greenwich Village. The Cold Stone here is a stark contrast to the chaos at OC. It's very peaceful and not always full. Moreover, this Cold Stone branch is within the same store as Quiznos. So right after having lunch or dinner, you can just go back to the counter and order ice cream for dessert! Very convenient. I appreciate how much time is put into the creation of my ice cream, and how consistent it is all the time in terms of taste, when choosing one of their pre-made flavors.
The area is quite inaccessible to those who don't live near Greenwich [a bus ride away from Yio Chu Kang MRT], but Cold Stone at Greenwich is a nice place to be as the ambience is great. It's quiet and the number of people around isn't that high. I personally like to use the space as a place to do schoolwork during the day when it's practically empty.
