Nothing special

Honestly, I don't ever buy cupcakes from Twelve, even when I'm having a huge craving for them. They just don't strike me as anything special. In fact, I find their cupcakes mediocre.

For one, I hate the cream cheese on the cupcakes. It's my personal preference, because I know of friends who simply love Twelve for the cream cheese. Second, the cupcakes are extremely small for their prices. They're smaller than the cupcakes from other places, but the prices are equivalent or higher.

As a fan of red velvet, I had a go at their red velvet cupcakes once. I removed the cream cheese. The cupcake was.... well. Nothing special, nothing fantastic. So I can never understand the craze over Twelve, and why they're opening up everywhere.

I think that the cupcakes from twelve cupcakes are unique and cute as compared to the other cupcakes we see, they have cream in the cupcakes but the cupcakes from twelve cupcakes have cream topping with different designs and patterns. I do buy it from time to time to share with my friends when we have gatherings.

I think it is suitable to buy these cupcakes for parties, gatherings or other events where it involves many people. However, I think it is a little expensive. I find that the staff are rather friendly with them always having a smile on their faces when serving the customers.

Relatively costly

"Twelve Cupcakes" is a highly commercial brand of cupcakes which emerged into the market a couple of years ago. There was a hype about them a while back, but they kinda died down after a while.

Being a person who does not like to squeeze just to check out what the hype is about, I usually wait till the commotion dies down before trying "new" stuff. I went down to the shop a couple of months after everyone has stopped raving about it, and grabbed a Red Velvet cupcake to try. Everyone has been talking about their Red Velvet cupcakes, but in my honest opinion, I dont think it is as great as it is said out to me. Maybe it was just that particular cupcake or maybe its that particular branch.

The cupcake I purchased was relatively dry and was kinda breaking apart with only the cream cheese holding it together. The staff at the counter were rather friendly though. I gave them the feedback after my first bite and they apologised and said they would look into the matter. Other than that, I feel that it's a little overpriced to get a rather small cupcake for its price.

Despite what happened, I dont think I'll be visiting a Twelve cupcake outlet any time soon.

Finally tried 12 Cupcakes after all the rave and good reviews it garnered. It is pretty delicious as it is just moist enough and the taste is not too rich. But it is too small for that price in my opinion. $3 for one simple looking cupcake is a tad expensive. After all the hype about how good it is etc, is it really good or is it just because it was opened by celebrity couple Daniel and Jamie?

If you noticed, the cupcakes bases are either Vanilla, Chocolate or Coffee, with the exception of Red Velvet. And all it varies is the creamed icing on top to make the different flavours. Well, I think it is really just easy money and lesser work compared to other cupcake bakeries and so I will rather buy cupcakes from elsewhere. Although they do have specials every month and week, they cost 50 cents more, on top of its already expensive price. Well, all I can say is trying it once is enough for me.

over-hyped cupcakes

I personally find 12 Cupcakes to be over-hyped. Its founders are well-known DJ couple Daniel Ong and Jamie Teo. It provides them with a good consumer base head start due to them being fairly popular to the public. Of course, it was also because of the "Daniel and Jamie" hype that I got to know about 12 Cupcakes. A cupcake store owned by a celebrity couple? First in Singapore!

I went to the store at United Square and I was captivated by the rows of cute cupcakes and the pink interior. So girly! I got 1/2 of 12 Cupcakes which means 6 and I chose 3 salted caramel flavored and 3 red velvet flavored. Both are my favorite flavors when it comes to cupcakes and I was thrilled to see salted caramel as not many places carry them. When I bit into the cupcakes, I did not find the cake to be moist enough for my liking. The standard of the icing was also not very high. A mediocre cupcake with great design and hype, I thought to myself. The cupcake was also tiny and I finished in about three bites? No wonder they named it 12 Cupcakes! You need 12 Cupcakes to actually get the quantity of 6 cupcakes you will normally get outside.

No quantity or quality on the cupcakes here so I'll pass after my first try. I dig the pink interior and theme though!
