The taste and texture of the peanut butter they use differs from your regular store bought peanut butter. It’s creamier and somehow much tastier, and I don’t usually like Peanut Butter. You could never go wrong with kaya, it has remained as one of my favorite spreads over the years.
Recently, I found out that the Premium Pandan Cake from Prima Deli was really good. It has to be the premium one in the fridge, not the regular pandan chiffon cake. It’s almost melt in your mouth soft yet retains the spongy, bouncy texture a chiffon cake should have. It was love at first bite.
Overall, this is one of my favorite bakeries because you can’t go wrong with anything Prima Deli.
I absolutely love their mango or durian puffs – they have the actual durian or mango fruit in abundance, wrapped in a thin, chewy layer of sweet pasty. Absolutely tasty, and not too sinful! Perfect for bite-sized snack after an overwhelming dinner.
Their agar agar is just the authentic, original agar agar – I would recommend buying the large square box, so that you can cut it up into as many pieces are you would like to, before they are snapped up by the entire family.
Their cream puffs, or chocolate puffs are absolutely delicious too! Not that sweet, but still equally tasty – not so sinful!
The best part – the low prices! It is definitely cheaper than other bakery stores like Bread Talk, although I must say that the range of bread that they sell is quite a limited range, so try not to expect too much. They do, however, still have the basic types of bread like mushroom and ham, hotdog, amongst several others. Nevertheless, they still taste equally delectable, definitely on par with that of Bread Talk’s.
Personally I liked their cheese waffle, since they bake it for you on the spot, the waffle will be hot and they add in the cold cheese and let it be like melted cheese. When they passes you your order, you take a bite from it. Melted cheese waffle, it's the best.
Their fruit tarts are really good too. It is like those mini sizes ones. After you ate one you will really crave for more. They have like kiwi, strawberry, mango and lychee. It is as good as those that are personally catered desserts for birthday parties. Only with a cheaper price.
Their durian puffs don't actually looks very attractive , but when you take one and bite into it. The puff give way and you taste the creamy and silky durian coming from inside the puff. One of the best, you will just have to try it out yourself.
Besides the waffles, I don't usually go for their buns/muffins/what-have-yous. My parents seem to love their cakes though, and almost always when it's someone's birthday in our family, they'd get the birthday cakes from Prima Deli. The cakes are alright though in my opinion, nothing to rave about.
The customer service on the other hand, is delightful. So friendly and warm, sometimes I couldn't help but feel like I'm with family. It's rare to get that kind of service nowadays.
The french loafs here are pretty good too, but im afraid to say that the rest of the works are pretty basic, unless if you are looking for an affordable cake, then you have come to the right place. Other than that, keep it to the waffles, the waffles are crisp and they are not stingy with the filling, that is what I like about this place.
Their waffle is cooked to medium brown perfection, after which the staff will set it to cool down for just a short while to make it crispy, before handing it over to you in a white paper bag. How is that different from other places that sell waffles made to go? Well, they are either never crispy enough (meaning they do not let it cool down before putting in the bag, thereby trapping hot air inside and thus making the waffle moist and err, not crispy) or they are not fresh, as the waffles have been made long before you ordered and were just set there waiting for people to buy.
Prima Deli does none of that (as far as I have seen, anyway), so they maintain the quality of their waffles. Yum!
Lest you think Prima Deli a one-hit wonder, I assure you their pies are excellent too. I used to avoid pies until my mum forced me to have their chicken pie for breakfast, and I started eating them. Something about the glaze on top makes them very attractive too.
The side of the waffle is cripsy but soft on the inside. Don't forget the cakes, not necessarily the birthday cakes, but the box of chocolate cakes and the vanilla ones too. They are creamy and rich in favours and every bite is full top quality ingredients. Even though the cakes are quite expensive at $4.50 to $5.50 they are worth the money!
The shop has also launched a new product - the egg tarts which are warm smooth and silky. Yummy!
More importantly, the waffles are nothing you should underestimate. Unlike other bakeries, their waffles are made with a special batter that is not of the typical Pandan flavoring. The batter (when cooked ) somewhat complements any flavor of jam that is spread onto the waffle, which gives a richer taste in the mouth. Another unique factor about prima deli is that it has maple syrup as one of the waffle’s range of fillings- something uncommon and not readily available at your normal bakery store.
I also tried a chocolate waffle- in which the chocolate was a bit too sweet. Perhaps it was also because of the generous serving they gave, to a point that when you bite the waffle, some remaining fudge would just ooze out from the sides. As such, you will end up licking some of the chocolate that is stuck to the sides of your mouth!
The outlet at Vivocity is very welcoming, as the staff is seen to be friendly and always smiling. Naturally, you wouldn’t mind buying from her!
However, if you want to customize your birthday cakes, you could choose your choice cake from the catalogue and inform the staff of how you want to customize them.
Apart from those, Prima Deli offers a wide variety of pastries such as their chocolate bread, pandan bread and coconut bread. I have tasted all of them and I would recommend the chocolate bread as it is not too sweet and they chocolate filling is generous.
Make sure that you check the expiry for these breads. They could only be stored at normal room temperature for 3-5 days.
Waffles are also available here. Many flavours offered but nothing is so special about them. They taste just like any others.
My recommendation from Prima Deli is definitely the chocolate bread, mango birthday cake and for those who are looking for customised cake, you might want to check out Prima Deli.
