Hailing from the French collection of bakeries and restaurants, Paul Bakery offers a wide range of croissants, brioche, tarts, fruit salads, macarons and delicious cakes, wherein the staff does not hesitate to give you a brief description of ingredients used in their tasty creations. At Paul's, be spoilt for choice with the 140 variations of breads. Uniquely made here is the Paul Flute, a French baguette made from slowly-fermented dough. Aside from the sweet and savory pastries, Paul Bakery & Patisserie also offers soups, sandwiches, salads, crepes and main dishes.
The staff at the bakery takeaway counter are downright rude and ignorant. While nobody expects them to converse en francais, perhaps it might be helpful if they actually learnt to pronounce the names of some of the products they are selling instead of giving customers blank looks and the classic utterance "hah?". Service without a smile seems to be the order of the day here.
The baked goods leave a lot to be desired. Lumpen and bland, certainly not worth the mark up. The coffee in the sit-down restaurant tastes like dishwater. The seats are not comfortable and the table height awkward.
Talking about the food, they are absolutely delicious. I've tried several items on their menu, such as their Chausson Pommes, Tartelette Citron, Eclair au Chocolat, Millefeuille Chocolat...and never once was I disappointed. Another time, my friend and I were so determined to try everything, we ordered about a dozen pastries and ate them for dinner. Fun times!
The prices might be a little steep, but it is a worthy indulgence once in a while. I recommend going with your best friend of a group or your closest mates - this place is ideal for lazing away an afternoon enjoying each other's company over wonderful treats.
Their lemon tart is zesty and just right, not too sweet but rather refreshing! The meringue tastefully decorated on top combined well with the tangy taste of the lemon. Delicious (: Their croissants are also a must try, both the chocolate and plain one. The chocolate one makes a good snack, with the taste not too rich, while the plain croissants is simply divine with some butter in the morning. The salesperson manning the bakery section for takeaways was also patient and familiar with the products sold (:

However, the same cant be said about the food. The desserts look amazing in the display but upon poking it on my table, its eating beautiful tasteless rubbish. I had some strawberry tart and it is very blah. Croque madame being my favourite is seriously very very easy to make, some bread some cheese some egg some ham, voila, but here at paul, no voila for me. And I am no noob at my croque madames having eaten many many in paris.
I guess one man's meat is another man's poison. Run far far away from here if you know your french, merci.
And today, i've finally met you. A great impression you gave me, for my virgin experience with you. You look absolutely stunning from far, and today, I ascertained that you do too, from near. Not only do you have the outer charm, you also have the inner charm. You captivated me by what you gave.
Your palmier is delicioso. Crisp and buttery, slathered with a butter and sugar caramelized sauce, one bite led to another. Initially i wanted to take it back as a treat for someone, but i touched it- warm. NO I CANT RESIST. My ultimate weakness is for freshly bake goods still WARM from the oven, hot best. I weakened and nibbled a little. Oh no. That's when it all went down. I just broke more and more pieces and chewed and nibbled and in less than a few minutes, all gone.

Indeed,it’s all about the bread. From the famous croquet monsieur, French toast to the classic mushroom zuppa soup is available. Don’t forget the French pastries such as Lemon meringue tart, macaroons and many many more are ready to satisfy your sweet tooth.
A wise man once said that the standard of a French Restaurant is dependent on the quality of its Lemon Tart. Hence. My friends and I decided to order the lemon meringue tart which they call it as Tartelette citron ($6.10). It’s very tangy, but luckily the sweet meringue balances the flavor well to wash down the palate completely.
Another dessert that everyone would love to order is the chocolate tart or Tartelette Chocolat ($6.10). The nice deep, dark, and rich chocolate combined with the soft tart texture is simply exquisite. Another dessert for chocolate- lovers is the Gaufre chocolat ($6.00) or as we call it, waffles with chocolate sauce. The soft waffle with the sweet chocolate sauce will melt inside your mouth. Everything combined seems decadent.
I had Croque Madame ($17.90) which consisted of turkey ham in toasted white bread topped with fried egg. You can choose the style you want your egg prepared. Poached, fried or scrambled. I had mine scrambled and it tasted so good. My friend had Croque Monsieur ($16.90) which is the same as what I had without the egg. Portion was pretty decent and I loved my toast with turkey inside. Turkey was fresh and done well.
The ice lemon tea ($5.80) is homemade. Recommended drink for people looking for options apart from coffee. Also, I had ice cream in a cup which costs $9.90. It is basically 3 scoops of ice cream with a mini-macron. Ice cream flavors I had were chocolate, coffee, vanilla. They had run of out of fruits. What a pity!
Overall, Paul’s would be a nice place to catch up with friends over a cup of coffee and sweet pastries on a weekend afternoon. I’ll be definitely heading there soon for a 2nd visit.
However, it wasn’t long before I had to slow down my gobbling. It became too sweet and unfortunately, I didn’t have any tea to help me neutralize a bit of that sweetness. I think if you want to try the lemon tart, a cup of their tea is advisable. They do sell sets: a tart, a cup of tea, and two macarons.
The mixed fruit tart though, was heavenly throughout. The strawberries had a unique taste which was also a confirmation of its freshness. The crust bottom was crispy and it had its own taste too. The custard base wasn’t too thick or had any overpowering taste. In fact, it was sweet in the right amounts. The smoothness of it and texture when it melted in my mouth made me go for mouth after mouth until I eventually finished the tart, every morsel of it. It didn’t take me a few minutes because it was so gratifying that I had to go on!
To complete the food experience, the ambience was great too. We were seated by the window and we could see the cars zooming past and people walking to another destination beneath us. The restaurant’s décor uplifted my mood and the lights were so pretty! The waiters had their chef hats on too and they served us well. The French bakery has achieved in making me feel like I’m in France with their excellent tarts and pretty furnishing.
