Mirana Cake House
The cake house offers a wide range of cakes, pastries and snacks that come in awry of flavours. It gives catering services for birthday parties, wedding, baby shower and many more! New year cookies and pineapple tarts are also prepared for the customers. In addition, the cake house also offers Seasons promotion.
Besides their pineapple tarts, their buns, cakes and waffles are delectable too! Their polo buns look small, but the filling inside is immense. I've tried their peanut butter polo and custard polo, and I must say the filling-to-bread ratio is perfect, not like in other bakeries where filling is minimal.
Another one of my favourite food there would be the chocolate banana cake. A piece of fresh banana wrapped in chocolate ganache and moist chocolate sponge cake. It is kind of expensive though, at $1.50 for a small piece I could finish in around 3 mouths.
Overall though, Mirana is certainly a gem waiting to be discovered.
Something outstanding about the cake house is their made-to-order waffles. How often do you find a bakery that sells waffles as well? The waffles are made on the spot, so that they can be served fresh, warm and crispy to the customers. Just eating the plain waffles are fine, but to enhance its flavour, you can pay a bit more for added flavours like chocolate spread, peanut butter, etc. The waffles truly made me crave for more of them!
Even though the bread sold there generally does not look appealing, give it a go as you won't regret its great taste.
Upon reaching home last night, I was greeted by the sight of four small pink boxes. When I saw the humble pink packaging, I immediately thought of those heartland bakeries I loved so much when I was young - before they all got "Swee Heng"-nized, that is. Another memory they evoked was of the "baby shower favours" presented to friends and families by new Chinese mummies.
Anyway, the beauties within were laid out perfectly on the coffee table by my dad - and might I mention, he had a look of barely suppressed glee on his face. He got a few of the plum swiss rolls ($1 each), which was really soft and fluffy. Worth a try definitely, but plums are not really my thing. The other 3 boxes were filled with lots of pretty tarts - the show-stopper, the highlight! Topped with almonds, this cakey strawberry tart is chock full of jam and absolutely yummy goodness! Almost a god-send, at less than a dollar.
Admittedly, Mirana does not offer the refined macaron/meringue/cupcake type of desserts, but their creations taste of sweet, sweet childhood. Lovely.
Though it offers a very wide range of cakes and pastries, I like their made-to-order waffles the best. Since they will only start making the waffle once you order, there is no fear of eating waffle left outside for a long time. Furthermore, their waffle is really crispy, not only at the border but the whole of waffle. Even without additional sides like chocolate or peanut jam, it tastes just as wonderful. With just a dollar, you can get a waffle worth more than that.
The personnel is friendly and will make recommendations on which cake or snaks sells the best when I decide to buy some for my family.
The shop is a little squeezy when more than 6 people enter the shop, but nonetheless, the pastries are worth getting even it requires a little squeeze.
