The Soup Spoon is a relatively popular dining place amongst the teenagers and the office employees. Their outlets are usually located at town areas, such as Orchard Paragon and Raffles City. Every time I am in town area and did not feel like having anything fried/oily for a meal, I will definitely choose Soup Spoon!

There is a variety of soup offered at Soup Spoon, hence, you will be able to find one that suits your taste buds for sure! I especially love the Velvety Mushroom Stroganoff and Boston Clam Chowder, they are comfort food in my opinion! The Velvety Mushroom Stroganoff was thick and rich, filled with many mushrooms, which is a wonderful thing for the mushroom lovers! When served piping hot, one will definitely not miss the aroma of the soup! The Boston Clam Chowder was extremely yummy too. It was filled with lots of potatoes and clams. Chewy and fresh clams and soft potatoes along with delicious soup, totally spells yummy! The soup itself usually cost around $5.60 - $6.50 for the smaller bowl soup and $6.80 - $8.20 for the larger bowl.

At Soup Spoon, you will definitely find great value for your meals! You might be thinking, one bowl of soup for $5.60 may sound a lil expensive. But fret not, the soup will definitely fill you to the brim! Even the smaller bowl is quite big in portion. And for greater value, you can get the SouperValue Combo meal, which consists of soup of your choice, either sandwich or salad, and either a pack of chips or an apple. A Souper Value meal costs around $9.50 - $12.10, quite pocket friendly right? Plus it is a healthier choice and not forgetting the fact that it is filling and scrumptious too! Get your soup fix at Soup Spoon, bound to warm your heart and stomach!

I'm not so sure about the other outlets of Soup Spoon as I have not recently patronised any other branches save for the Plaza Singapura one, and with good reason! For starters, they have a great set called the "Souper Value Meal", lovely name and great value! You get a soup, drink of choice and a wrap/salad/sandwich. The portions of the sandwich is large enough that you can get one meal for two persons if you're not feeling particularly hungry.

Furthermore, the decor of the place is based around wood. With a long timber table with minimalistic chairs surrounding at it's entrance and the style following consistently throughout, I can't help but have a soft spot for the shop. Since the capacity of the place is small, there's sufficient leg room for most group sizes.

For all my visits, I have always gotten a piping hot bowl of soup and a lightly warmed bun (either the multigrain one or the plain one) with my salad arriving not long later. The service is efficient but not overwhelming and they mostly keep out of sight.

If you want to try out Soup Spoon, come to the Plaza Singapura branch!

Was introduced to Soup Spoon by my sister as I wasn’t really a fan of thick creamy soup. I am more of a clear soup kind of person but I must admit the Velvety Mushroom Stroganoff wasn’t too bad. It is very filling as it is thick and comes with a fresh bun. I love the bun as it is served warm and is really soft inside. But about halfway through the soup, you start to feel that it is too heavy. Suggest sharing with someone else.

I tried the Simon and Garfunkel Chicken and Mushroom Ragout and Roasted Pumpkin soup before too. Both were also pretty good at first taste, but suffer the same fate as the Mushroom Stroganoff. After half a bowl, you feel that the soup is too heavy. But you get a good deal from the Simon and Garfunkel Chicken and Mushroom Ragout as it has a lot of ingredients - Chicken, potato, carrots and a mixture of many mushrooms. Does look like a curry too.

Although I am not a fan of thick soups, I do visit Soup Spoon when I want a good hearty meal of soup and its great that they indicate the number of calories for each type of soup so it helps me make a better decision on my choice of soup. Do try their fried mushrooms (side dish) as well and the carrot cake ($4 plus) for a decent slice. Drop by every now and then as the chef might come up with new limited edition soups.

The soup spoon used to be my favourite “soup” place. However, it is now placed second on my list after I found Souperlicious. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve no complaints with soup spoon. They sell very tasty pumpkin and mushroom soups which are thick and creamy yet not overwhelming. Also, their serving size is also pretty generous. I would recommend for 2 people to share a bowl! However, it is just that they met a stronger competitor. For someone who loves soup, I would recommend Souperlicious instead. The soups at Souperlicious taste much fresher and appetizing.

Soup Spoon offers take home packs as well for some of their popular soups. During lunch time, their outlet can get pretty crowded with office ladies given that it is a healthier option. Recently, Soup Spoon has also opened a sister outlet named Soup Broth which sells Chinese brewed soups, It seems to be pretty popular with the office crowd as well!

For someone who is new to Soup Spoon, I would recommend you to try out their Crusty Pot Pies. It is basically just the soup of your preferred choice covered with a pastry crust . A pretty unique way to enjoy your soup!

For starters, I'm not a fan of their soups just because I find it to be on the bland side. I however like their ceasar mushroom wrap! It's light and tasty, although S$9 for a chicken wrap is slightly pricey.

This is more about the bad service I went through one evening. Soup spoon is free seating, but any self-respecting customers would form a line especially if there was only one narrow entrance to the shop. I arrived to a lady waiting at the entrance so I naturally assumed the position behind her. Another teenage boy and his mother (just a guess) came after me but decided to go around the lady in front me and I and scurry for places inside.

None of the staff who witnessed this happening stopped them. In fact they helped them look for tables! I just stood there dumbfounded, engaging in my own pity-party. I got a table and my wrap in the end but also ended up feeling like a really stupid customer.

My mother wanted to try out the ever-so-famous soup spoon one day so we went down all the way to Tiong Bahru to have lunch. So being the health freak I am, I ordered the soup with the least amount of calories, Minestrone soup with a Waldorf salad, while my mother had Curry soup with a wrap. I really enjoyed my Minestrone. It was a little sour because of the tomatoes but it was really fresh and healthy.

It was also my first time having a waldorf salad ( I ordered without knowing what it was because it had 'Waldorf' in it LOL). Waldorf salad is basically made up of fruits and celeries. Seasoned with a special fruit salad dressing, walnuts and cranberries. I really really enjoyed it. Not only was it delicious, it was also very filling.

How ever, my mother did not have the same experience as I. Her curry tasted really weird and the wrap was a so-so. Well she should've ordered cream of mushroom. You can never go wrong with Cream of Mushroom!

Soup Spoon has been a favourite amongst all ages, and it isn't hard to see why. Their soups consist of many healthy and flavourful ingredients and the soups taste divine in a simple, homemade kind of way. Its always my go-to eatery when I'm craving for some comfort food!

I usually have the pumpkin soup, which is simple yet super creamy and tasty soup which always gives me a warm fuzzy feeling in my tummy! I also like the contrasting texture of the crunchy apple and almond bits in the soup. If I'm craving for a more broth-like soup, I'd go for the tokyo chicken stew which has a generous portion of chicken chunks in it as well as an assortment of veggies and mushrooms.

I do feel that a regular bowl of soup with a bread roll is simply insufficient to leave me satiated as I always lick the bowl clean while wanting more. However, Soup Spoon offers a combo meal with your soup - which comes with a drink/fruit, a half salad/sandwich and a soup. This is great as it would turn your whole meal into a wholesome and hearty one!

Another great thing about Soup Spoon is that they also have take-home soup packs, which are convenient soup packages for you to bring home to heat up whenever you want, and you can enjoy comfort food in an instant while chilling on your couch!

The Soup Spoon offers great tasting soups that are healthy and quite affordable. One might be hesitant on paying so much for a bowl of soup; but I can assure all of you that they are filling and delicious! Also, if you get the set meal which comes with an additional half a wrap; it's definitely a good deal that will leave you full and contented :)

They offer both light soups (veggie-based) and richer ones (meat-based). Personally, I recommend taking lighter soups for smaller eaters because they all come up with a bread roll and if you get the wrap as well, you might get overly stuffed. For heavy eaters, knock yourself out 8)

One thing I don't like about them is that their service was not quite up to standard; they were impatient and wasn't very willing to give us time to think about our orders :/ Hence, I suggest not joining the queue first until you're crystal clear about your order.

Soup is not just water
Overall Score

“How can you have soup for a meal?” asked everyone, as I went on and on about this place. They just didn’t understand. Having soup at The Soup Spoon, wasn’t ‘eating water’.

The Soup Spoon serves soups that are hearty, substantial, and definitely filling. I usually recommend first-timers the Beef Goulash or Tokyo Chicken Stew, which are also both personal favourites of mine. The Beef Goulash provides generous servings of beef chunks, potatoes, and carrots - more than enough to fill your tummy. The clear soup of the Tokyo Chicken Stew may be less filling, but it has a homely, almost nostalgic, taste that you will find yourself craving even weeks after.

Meals here are on the pricey side, which may put off diners greatly. But The Soup Spoon is a place that you have to try at least once in your life - maybe then you’d realise that the money you’re forking out is worth the value.

What caught my eye was the display of calories on their clear cut menu displayed outside their restaurant. Being the health conscious me, I was superbly impressed with this marketing tactic and I definitely gave a second glance at their menu.

What was even better was, did you you know you are allowed to taste the soups before you purchase them? They are not stingy with sample soups at all!

As soups are usually served as a side dish, one would never have expected their soups to be surprisingly tasty and filling! For once, meals are not overloaded with carbohydrates. No matter what your choice of soup is, it is mixed with generous amounts of ingredients. As if a bowl of soup is too scant, it is accompanied with a multigrain bun to dip the soup in. Another healthy plus point!
