Unlike its unique but odd choice of name, Selfish Gene Cafe is a warm, welcoming place. Located in the Duxton region, Selfish Gene Cafe attracts a more youthful crowd. On weekdays, expect to see young executives or yuppies, while the weekend crowd tends to be students or hipsters.

The ambience at Selfish Gene Cafe is simple and casual... You wouldn't be out of place wearing slippers or shorts here! Decor is minimal, and furniture is reminiscent of study tables you might find in school.

Selfish Gene Cafe practises self-service ordering and billing, although they will serve food and drinks to your table. Because of this, staff don't really interact much with customers. However, they are friendly and polite. I especially like their quirky numbered cup concept, which besides identifiying your order, also serves to hold your change and receipt.

Food at Selfish Gene Cafe is rather simple fare. Sandwiches, all-day breakfast items, desserts and salads make up the bulk of their offerings. Fortunately, every dish I've had at Selfish Gene Cafe features fresh ingredients, even down to the home-made jam / compote. Selfish Gene Cafe is proof that fresh, simple and uncomplicated food can be good!

The menu at Selfish Gene Cafe isn't extensive though, but it's still a great place for breakfast, brunch or light lunch.

Selfish gene cafe is one of the many creative cafes along Craig road and i love this quaint cafe for its food, peace, ambience.

The name struck me- selfish gene. Why did the owner call herself selfish? Itsnot because he wouldnt share his food but rather he will not serve food that he will not eat himself. What a pun right. This words were also chalked on the wall board in the cafe. The cafe was brightly lit and drinks and cutlery were self-serviced but food will be brought to you

I tried the breakfast plate which was abundant with scrambled eggs, english pork sausage, honey baked ham, sauteed mushroom, tomato confit, toasted brioche, french butter and jam. I also shared with my boyfriend the popuar bananna cake and i loved it even though i am not a fan of banannas at all! The taste was strong but yet tasted of real food and had like peanut butter sauce sprinkled on it, bringing the sweet taste to a greater level!

Overall, a very nice cafe to spend the breakfast or afternoon in, just lazing around, reading the newspapers/magazines that they provide

Selfish gene cafe is situated conveniently a short walk away from Outram Park MRT Station. When I first heard of the name of the cafe, I thought that it was rather unique and weird at the same time. I had a Breakfast Platter with scrambled eggs, pork sausage, ham, mushroom, tomato confit, with toasts with french butter and jam. I would say that it is rather value for money as the portion is huge for $15. I really loved the scrambled eggs as it was soft and milky.
We also ordered a smoked salmon sandwich with tortilla chips. The smoked salmon was nicely done and the sandwich was fresh and light. Perfect for those who are health conscious. The overall ambience of the cafe was cosy and it would be a good place to have a cup of coffee and a good book.

Selfish genes cafe -- when my friend first introduced the place to me, I was quite taken back by the name of the cafe! We decided to make a trip down there and it was really a satisfying one.

The cafe is really accessible. Simply take the train to Outram Park and walk towards Duxton@Pinnacle, you would see the cafe in vicinity. I personally love the ambience of selfish gene cafe. Although the interior design is not very captivating, I like the fact that it gives me a cosy, relaxing and pleasant feeling.

Foodwise, go for the breakfast! We tried the breakfast plate which consisted of scrambled eggs, sausage, ham, mushroom, tomato confit, brioche, butter and berry compete ( appr. $15). I love the whole dish especially the brioche! It has a unique, soft taste to it. The mushroom with drops of garlic tasted really good as well. All in all, the serving was just right for one person. We also ordered warm chocolate cake (appr. $5) but it was a disappointment. I would not recommend this cake (I am not sure about the rest of the sweet cakes) because the warm chocolate cake was quite tiny and dry, lacking of the chocolatey favour. Drink wise, a cup of tea (appr $3) would be just perfect!

If you are looking for quiet place to chill and enjoy your breakfast, go for selfish genes cafe!
