MEATBALLS
Overall Score

4.5

Standards has dropped in IKEA ever since I was a little girl, however, it still remains as one of my favorite places to eat at. Everyone HAS to try the food at IKEA at least once in their lives. It’s not the most gourmet, but it’s comforting, affordable and extremely satisfying.

My favorite dish will always be the meatballs, along with their amazing sauce and lingonberry sauce. Everything goes so well together, you’ll want to come back for more. The chicken wings are my next favorite, it’s so sinful but so good. You have to try it for yourself!

IKEA can get really crowded during peak hours, so it’ll be best if you headed there after lunch/ before dinner times.

I know the food here isn't magnificent, yup I get it, I know. But for some reason I keep coming back for more. Maybe its because I've been coming here since I was really young and I always used to really really look forward to lunch dates with my mom at Ikea.

My favourite dish is obviously the meatballs which I always go for every single time I visit Ikea without fail. No horse meat scandal is going to turn me off of those meatballs. Especially when eaten with the cranberry sauce and white sauce, its a taste that is so familiar and nostalgic for me.

Another clear winner is the Daim Cake which is made from their signature Daim Chocolate and its jest so sinful and delicious. Every trip to Ikea is like going back to being a kid again and no matter how old I get I know I'm still going to adore Ikea food.

Meatballs?

My friend once made a joke that Ikea's meatballs tasted so awesome probably because they were actually made out of horse meat. I mean, who actually knows right? Well, meatballs at this place are like a must have staple and they come in brown sauce paired with Lingonberry jam. It is a wonderfully filling meal if you are a fan of meatballs.

However, if you got dragged there by your family and are not a fan of meatballs, Ikea's cafe have several other alternatives like fish and chips, fried chicken wings and baby ribs. Some of their cakes like chocolate cakes and almond cakes are also consistently well made and would make a great dessert for your meal. I think what impresses me most is that Ikea has successfully implemented the "return your own tray" policy, something which I hope can be seen more often across Singapore.

My stomach is grumbling even before I start on this review, and I am sure it will start grumbling even more after this.
Well, speaking of IKEA, you simply CAN'T miss their Swedish meatballs and chicken wings! I was first introduced to them by a friend of mine (I wasn't really keen before, but ended up became such a huge fanatic).
I was seriously attracted to the picture illustration of their meatballs, but was reluctant to try when I was told the ingredients consist of beef. I wasn't in favor of beef, but I made the "sacrifice" and went for it nonetheless. And I regretted trying them because it converted me to an addict.
The sauce that comes with the meatballs are just the right combination, and will have you craving for more after each bite. It's like you'll never get tired of eating them! (It sure sounds exaggerating, but I'm just speaking from honest, personal experience. )

It's a die-die Must-try if you ever get a chance to visit any IKEA store. (It isn't highly raved for nothing!) There are many other menu items as well that I am dying to try (for eg: the spaghetti that looks TOO good). And yes, they even have special combo meals designed for kids! (It's inclusive of meatballs and nuggets) If you are one that doesn't eat much/on a diet, you can get the kids' version of the meal. That was what I did the last time I was there! *sheepish grin*

The only downside is that you'll have to spend time queueing up for the cashier, especially during weekends.

Well, that's it. My stomach is grumbling now and my brains are all filled with images of the meatballs. Oh darn.

Best meatballs ever

IKEA meatballs are my favourite! I go for it at least once a month. It is best to go down during mid afternoon, when the café isn’t as crowded and it would be possible to secure seats easily.

A serving size of 10 meatballs may seem to be quite little, but in actual fact it fills my stomach up real fast and before I know it, I cannot finish the dish. The combination of the gravy and jam is innovative and different from the typical cuisines we are accustomed to in Singapore, making it one of a kind and extremely droolworthy! The mashed potatoes are a good touch, making the dish healthier on the whole.

Of course, after meatballs, the next favourite would have to be the fried chicken wings. The skin is fried to crispy perfection and honestly, one of the best around in Singapore. It is no wonder why people will take the trip to IKEA café. The food always leaves me wanting for more!

There are also other dishes available, like pasta and salmon. I’ve never tried either because the thought of giving up stomach space for these new dishes are almost too unbearable. Check out the IKEA website for dining promotions as they change from time to time.

Home for food

Who'd have thought that a place selling furniture and home decorum would become an attraction for food lovers? A cosy place at Ikea, plus the restaurant area is large and nicely furnished, it largely betters one's dining experience.

As you would have heard, Ikea's meatballs are undoubtedly of a winning brand. Apart from that, the main dishes that they offer also include Nasi Bryani and many more, not forgetting a tad of local taste amidst the western cuisines. The queue to order the food is organised, with each customer pushing a trolley with a food tray placed above for easy handling and carrying of the food back to their tables. They also offer a free flow of soft drinks and coffee and such.

However, the crowds during peak period can be overwhelming, so to have a good lunch without waiting or scouring for seats, it is advised to go during weekdays.
Other than that, Ikea is definitely an ideal place for a weekend dinner with the family or even afternoon meetings with clients.

The place for Swedish Meatballs

I'm sure many of us are guilty of traveling to IKEA not for their furnitures, but for the amazing food in their cafeteria. I am definitely one of them. The cafeteria in IKEA was probably meant in the early days for shoppers to have lunch and rest their feet after scouring the maze in the furniture lobby for their ideal piece of furniture. However, it has quickly gained popularity with its amazingly delicious food.

I bet everyone who has been to the cafeteria has tried their Swedish meatballs and chicken wings, just to name a few of their specials. If you go on Tuesdays, also fondly known as Meatball Day, you get a discount on the price of the meatballs as well! Other than the meatballs, they also serve a variety of local delicacies as well, like laksa and fried rice. They used to have yummlicious grilled salmon too, but they have recently tweaked their menu a little so I am not sure if it is still there.

Other than the meatballs at the cafeteria, IKEA also has a snack bar which serves hotdogs and soft swirl ice-cream for dessert! The best part of it is that you get to do-it-yourself! Yes! You get a cone at the counter, and you can bring the cone to the ice-cream machine to get your own ice-cream! For the hotdog buns, you get to squeeze your own choice of topping, like mustard, chili or ketchup too!

If dining there is not satisfying enough for you, they have a small mart which sells frozen meatballs and their signature sauce as well, so you can make it yourself at home for your loved ones or friends.

Don't blame me if you find yourself desiring more of those delights after you've tried 'em!
