Scaling the culinary heights of New York, Empire State offers a wide range of indulgent hearty dishes from big juicy burgers to scrumptious pizzas, pastas and sinful, luxurious desserts. Our causal dining restaurant sets on vibrant and colourful settings, with dishes catering to the young, family and attracting customers of all ages at an affordable price.
Empire state is a mid-range American Restaurant in Singapore that serves typical American food such as burgers and poultry. I ate it once 5 years ago with my friends and had a very enjoyable dining experience. I went to the outlet at Iluma, now called Bugis Plus (but the outlet has now closed down). The food was delicious and service was good.
I really like their desserts, especially the molten lava cake i ordered. It was served on a hot skillet pan with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The dish had many different textures, hot silky chocolate lava with a fluffy cake base coupled with cold creamy vanilla ice cream.
I was quite disappointed when i discovered that the store at Bugis Plus has closed down as the food was truly delicious and the interior was decorated very intricately - i literally felt like i was in New York. Would recommend everyone to give it a try at the remaining outlets.
The staff were really efficient and friendly, making the ordering process a breeze. I had the Coney Island Hot Dog while my mother ordered some pasta. The food was pretty good, but not mindblowingly good. The portions were also larger than expected, leaving me with no choice but to leave behind some food on my plate. Oh, the guilt.
To sum it up, this place is great for casual gatherings and also suits people with a big appetite. For people with small to average appetites, I would highly recommend sharing the food. Having said this, the prices here are quite reasonable, considering the size of the portions served.
The menu is expansive and the dishes expensive. However, they come in humongous portions (as if they're for the larger sized Americans rather than the Asians with slighter builts). To combat wastage, what we usually do is order less and share. For example, if there are 4 adults, we order three dishes and share them, and we always end up polishing every bit of food from the huge plates.
What I especially love about Empire State is the free-flow bread. While waiting for the food to arrive, one can go to the corner where the bread is displayed and put them in a small basket to bring back to the table. The bread is always freshly-made, with crisp skin and soft warm flesh; as such, there is always a frenzy to snatch them once a fresh batch is brought out.
I ordered their empire state burger (clueless as to what I'm in for), and when it came oh good god I was shocked. I didn't know it was that big. Suffice to say, I couldn't finish it, and left the place all smiles because it was really good and I was really full and because the ambience of the place was so light and vibrant, me and my sister had quite the conversation.
The service was also pretty commendable!
I'm definitely going to dine here again, and soon.
What was more surprising was the food that they served was really huge as well. At first, I thought the serving will be smaller than what was depicted in the picture. Well, for many other restaurants, the food usually comes out different from what is seen from the picture in the menu. I remembered ordering the spaghetti and my serving was good enough for 2 person. I have a huge appetite and the huge serving was really a very satisfying meal. It was absolutely worth my money. It feels like I'm paying the same price for a larger serving.
I'm still loving Empire State for their intriguing food proportions. It isn't cheap but it is definitely worth it! On my next visit, I would love to try the squid ink spaghetti!
Having seen the huge portions of food the patrons have on their table, I was tempted to give it a try. First time i went i ordered half piece chicken and lo and behold, it was really huge. Not is it only good in size, it is also good in taste. I have to commend on its hot chocolate fudge with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Sizzling on a hot plate, the brownie is warm, topping it with the cold scoop of vanilla ice cream is the utmost perfect combination.
The waiters and waitresses were friendly, always so ready to fulfill my little requests every now and then.
Overall, it was a great dining experience but do take my word of caution: their portions are really HUGE.
So I couldn't understand the life-sized Fish & Chips I ordered. I'm pretty sure it's good enough to last me 3 days and 2 nights so I was a little stunned for a bit.
Then my friends came and grabbed seconds from my plate so in a bit, I was comfortable with eating what's left of my food and it was nothing too impressive but not too bad either.
Expect very generous portions of their dishes but know that the downside is that it gets very sickening after a while. If I had finished that dish alone, I'll swear off fish for the next 30 days. Nobody ever complains about big portions so maybe this isn't a legit disclaimer.
Staff was very friendly and helped us take a photo. Less can be said about their photography skills though heh, small issue!
Not a place I'd eat at again.
On my first visit, I ordered a baked macaroni. The portion, as compared to their other dishes, was just right, not too big nor small. This was also the cheapest pasta dish on the menu. Taste wise, it left me a pretty positive impression of the restaurant, and that made me recommend the place to my family members, which led to a return to Empire State some time later.
On my second visit, everything each of us ordered was big. I ordered a four cheese penne (cannot remember the exact name). Initially, it tasted good, but as I kept eating it, the dish just got boring, and my tummy was filling up slowly. Eventually, I gave up and did not finish it. Other items my family members ordered were the ribs and burgers. Do not remember what they are exactly, but they were not satisfied with their food. Almost all of them did not finish their food due to the large portions too.
Don't think I will be returning to Empire State any time soon, maybe until someone bugs me to go really badly, although I would probably assure the person if they really want to go there...
I took the Full-Spring Chicken set and it was amazing! The chicken was very tender, soft when you bit a piece of the spring chicken, and it was very meaty. It went very well with the gravy on top, The mush potato was all it takes that keeps me full. Till the main dish for everybody had turned up and it was the Empire State Burger, the 6 of us begin cutting it up and distributing to each other and all it was left on the plate was large amount of french fries, the burger is filled with mushrooms, bacon, caramelized onions and assorted melted cheeses on a bed of lettuce and tomatoes. Which taste really good!
There was once my friend was speaking loudly about why was anyone helping him to refill drinks. There was a female manager standing at the counter overheard us and help to refill his cup of water and smile at us, even though I felt embarrassed by my friend about what he have say. Their customer service is simply the best that I can say, as the waiter comes up to us and told us he will help us to rush for our food and stuffs like that.
If you're looking for a fine western dining restaurant for you and your friends or family over the weekends, then wait no more and head down to Empire State!
