Journey through the gourmet streets of Vietnam at NamNam Noodle Bar.
NamNam is popular for their Beef Pho which I really liked. Served with clear glass noodles and a generous portion of thinly sliced beef, their Sliced Beef Pho ($9.90) fills you up nicely at an affordable price. The broth is my favorite, it’s light yet tasty at the same time. Not many people agree though, many of my friends think that the broth is pretty tasteless. I’ve heard that their Vietnamese sandwich (Bahn Mi) is well received too, but I have yet to try it out.
Nevertheless, NamNam was a new and refreshing experience as there isn’t much Vietnamese cuisine around in Singapore. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a healthy and affordable meal.
The Pho Beef Steak Slices is hearty without being an overkill. Unlike many other soupy noodles, the soup from Nam Nam is clear and flavorful without the use of MSG. A variety of sauces are also provided at the side for you to create your own concoction. The beef, sliced thinly, is cooked ever-so-slightly to give it a pinkish middle thus retaining its tenderness.
Other than pho, they also offer Banh Mi that is both healthy and tastes good. My suggestion would be to stay away from the Lotus Root Tea unless you are a fan of bland bark-tasting drinks. Otherwise, the food from NamNam noodle bar definitely deserves a try, especially on a cold rainy day!
I really like their Beverages as well. My favourite is the Vietnamese Milk tea which gives a twist to the usual milk tea we are used to - the Vietnamese one is slightly sour! At $9.90, you get a bowl of chicken or beef pho, a side dish of pickled vegetables, and a drink of your choice. I got the classic beef pho with ice milk tea!
Overall, I would strongly recommend Vietnamese food lovers to Nam Nam Noodle Bar!
And I was very pleased with what I ordered, which was the beef Pho. The beef was tender and nice, as it was cooked to medium rare. However, some bits were simply just fat, and no meat at all, and I was a bit disappointed in that area. The soup was really nice though, as the lemon grass was not too strong nor too weak, so it gave the soup a kind of fragrance.
The pricing was acceptable, below $10, so altogether, I was quite satisfied with my meal. I will certainly be dropping by there again in the near future!
Other than that, I was happy with my bowl of pho. I enjoyed the lightly sweet taste of the soup, which was not too intense for me.
Whenever I want to eat budget and nice food at Plaza Sing (And didn't crave for fast food), I'll immediately think of Nam Nam! Having cravings at such a weird hour again and I cannot wait to try it again some day. It's definitely worth a try if you haven't! The price is really reasonable!
I suppose the one drawback would be the queue - I frequent the one at Plaza Singapura and since it's one of the only cheap places around, the place is always packed with people. I wouldn't say the seats are too comfortable either - these are rickety wooden seats that don't bode well for sitting down on them for a protracted period of time, but since you'll just be there for a meal, I say still go for it; overlook the minute details.
The food is not half bad. I love adding a lot of fish sauce to mine - it becomes so briny and salty and just delicious (I have to purchase some of that fish sauce to add to everything). The noodles are cheap too - a bowl would only set you back approximately $10.
It's one of the best places to go for lunch due to its lunch set deal. At $9.90, you get a bowl of chicken or beef pho, a side of pickled vegetables, and a drink of your choice. I got the classic beef pho with beef balls and a pot of hot tea. The soup was light, verging on bland yet with the generous portion, it makes for a pretty good deal.
The outlet at Raffles Place has booths at private corners which is a good setting to escape from the mad lunch crowd.
During the lunch period, they've got a promotion that consists of a bowl of pho, a drink and a side dish. The broth used in the pho is very flavourful and it is comforting knowing that they do not use msg. Their spring rolls however, were not as good. The spring roll skin is thick and when it turned cold, it became very hard and sticky.
Overall, nam nam makes a good place to have a quick, comforting lunch especially on a cold rainy day .
I've only tried their beef pho and I'm glad that at least they're still very generous with their beef slices. The soup was also not watery and tasteless. Their iced coffee also kicks some serious butt! Milky, sweet with just the right aroma.
I had the Pho Beef Steak Slices ($8.90) which is very affordable in my opinion. I think that the soup can make or break the dish, and this didn't disappoint at all. It had hints of spice and mint which were subtle, yet distinct enough to give the whole dish more oomph. I like. I also wasn't expecting much quality for the beef, but I'm glad to have been wrong. The thinly sliced beef was served medium rare, which is great, since the beef continues cooking if you let it soak in the soup.
I'd go back again if I'm craving an affordable bowl of pho. For the budget-conscious, you'll be happy to know that they do not charge GST *throws confetti in the air* A quick google check also showed that they have some breakfast deal going on, where you can get a bowl of pho and a coffee/tea from 8am-10am at only $7.90. Yes please.
