There's a Thai eatery called Nakhon near Kovan MRT that my friends and I like to frequent usually only at the end of exams since it's far from NUS/NTU. We used to have lunch there during our JC days so it brings back fond memories. Their thick tom yum soup is so full of flavour, being sour, sweet and spicy all at once. However, during our last visit, we ordered cereal prawns, not a good choice I would say since it's a Thai eatery. It came with a huge pile of cereals but only 5 prawns or so. The prawns were not fresh but oh well, we'd still come back for the affordable tom yum and phad thai any day. Be prepared to work up a sweat since the food is so spicy and there's no air conditioning. Tissue is provided at every table though. My advice, stick to the Thai food and don't be too adventurous to order Chinese food here.

This is a very small and local store in the east area, located near to the Bedok Interchange. Being a kitchen with very little space and limitations to expand their business due to space, the customers never stop coming! Day after day, I would pass by this place and see long queues of customers just waiting to get a seat. The queue doesn't end and when you have a chance to head down there and get a table with little or no people, count yourself lucky.

They serve delicious Thai food that will make you want to go back with more people just to share the tastiness of the food. I am a huge fan of Thai cuisines, especially the 'Tom Yum Soup'. It is one of their signature dishes in Thailand. In Nakhon, they serve it with different choices. Either the clear-based or the thick-based. I personally have tried both and they taste heavenly.

Also, there is another one other all time favorite that I enjoy each time I get to dine in places that serves Thai food. It's the mango salad. I am not really sure what is the actual thai cuisine name for it but it leaves me wanting more each time I have a chance to eat it. To all you mango lovers and people who appreciates spices, this is the right place for you. If you have not been there, please do. i ensure that this place will satisfy your every desire for Thai cuisines and your hearty appetite.

I am not a huge Thai food fan, but Nakhon Kitchen is one of my favourite places to go for a quick meal. It offers one of the best authentic Thai cuisines around with extremely affordable prices, about $6 for a plate of yummy honey chicken rice or pad thai. According to friends who are spicy food lovers, their clear tom yum is as spicy as it can get! It’s therefore not a wonder that a queue always forms within 30 minutes of opening regardless of the efficient service - take note, they are only open for certain hours of the day. The only negative point is their Thai iced tea; it is not as sweet and refreshing and I have definitely tasted better iced tea before. Nonetheless, they sell great food at cheap prices and their service is prompt, you can’t ask for more!

I only went to Nakhon Kitchen because a friend insisted that this was the best thai restaurant in Singapore. Frankly, I was rather skeptical at first but after giving it a try I was more than pleasantly surprised.

Our party of four reached around 6.30pm on a weekday and already there was a long snaking queue. Given how inconspicuous the location is, I guess the amount of people there really says a lot about how popular the restaurant is.

Anyway, we ordered the Tom Yam Thick Base Soup which is an essential for every thai meal. It was slightly too sweet for my liking but tasted great all the same with the olive fried rice that we ordered.

We also had Thai Style Kang Kung which really added some spice to our meal. The Stir fried minced Pork with hot Basil leaves is another dish that I would highly recommend. The fragrance of the basil leaves really enhanced the sweetness of the minced pork which made this my favorite dish of the evening.

My only complaint is that the music of the restaurant was a bit too loud. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to Thai food lovers. However, I strongly encourage you to go early or suffer a long wait for a table.

Nakhon is an unassuming restaurant with great authentic thai food in the heartlands. It's probably obvious from the long queue, even on weekday nights, how popular this restaurant is. It's recommended you go slightly earlier than the usual dinner time for a shorter wait. Although, service is pretty fast in this restaurant and you usually would be able to get a seat in about 20 minutes during dinnertime.

The tom yam soup is a bowl of fire. It looks deceptively mild but once you start drinking it, you'll be clamouring for water. Even a chilli lover like me found it too spicy to drink much of the soup. One bowl of soup can be shared among 4 and still be sufficient. If you're going for the tom yam, I would usually order a Thai iced tea. It is refreshing and great for cooling burning tongues although it may get too sweet sometimes.

The basil chicken or basil seafood is simply delicious and goes very well with white rice. For sides, the boneless chicken is a great choice. Stuffed with chicken meat and the right amount of herbs, this dish is like no other I've tried.

Service is prompt and very friendly (most are Thais). It's always a pleasure to dine there for a simple meal of seriously good Thai cuisine.
