I have a friend who speaks very highly of Ah Loy Thai and one day she insisted that I join her for the Thai food there. Thai food's one of my favourite cuisines so I certainly didn't let out even a squeak of complain. I grumbled, however, when we had to walk from City Hall MRT to the small eatery. It's about 20 minutes walk to Ah Loy Thai at Beach Road, and it's situated just diagonally opposite Tom's Palette, an ice-cream store that serves exotic flavours.

She raved non-stop to me about the butter calamari at Ah Loy Thai, and I chimed in with her after trying it for myself. The staple Thai dishes that we ordered at Ah Loy Thai (Tom Yum Soup, Green Curry, Pineapple Fried Rice) were pretty decent and the price wasn't exorbitant. Certainly makes for a hearty Thai meal. They operate on a pay-first basis, and the dishes take a while to arrive.

Also, their Thai Milk Tea is a must get!

The food here is not too shabby and it's affordable! I like the Phad Thai most and I'm thankful that the portion served is considerably generous. My boyfriend and I shared a seafood tomyum soup and a green curry the last time we came and we were so stuffed! The plate of plain white rice at Ah Loy Thai is humongous.

Service is extremely slow nonetheless. It feels a little weird that you have to pay first before you get to tuck into your food at an eatery located in a mall. I heard the pineapple fried rice isn't very good though! I guess I'll only return for the Phad Thai if I have an urge to eat Thai food when I happen to be nearby. It's a little overrated, in my opinion.

You can get a better deal over at Nakhon Kitchen with good thai food at slightly cheaper prices.Try it if you haven't already!

Ah Loy Thai is one of the cheaper yet decent Thai food restaurants in Singapore. There is usually a queue in the evenings, so try to go early if possible to get a table.

Most of the dishes there are reasonably priced with reasonable portions. The pad thai was one of my favourite dishes. Even though it looks really simple, each mouthful of noodles I ate was really flavourful. The butter calamari was awesome! My friends and I couldn't stop eating it, and the whole dish was gone within a few minutes. On the other hand, I didn't really like the tom yum goong, which was only spicy and didn't have any other flavour to it.

This place is a no-frills restaurant, so don't expect good service. All the tables and chairs are quite close to each other too, as the whole space is quite small. However, the food is quite decent enough for me to come back in the future.

I fancy Ah Loy Thai for its authentic Thai food and reasonable pricing. They close early on Sundays though so be sure to check their opening hours if you don't wanr to be let down. There is Tom's Palette, an ice cream eatery, nearby so you can head there for some good dessert after your meal.

I've tried: Tom Yum, Green Curry, Mango Salad (spicy), Pandan Wrapped chicken (very nice a must try!), Buttered Calamari, Pad Thai (nothing fantastic) and a few other dishes I forgot since it has been a few months ago.

Most of their food are flavourful and although they have spices infused they're not that spicy. You could neutralise the spice with some milk/dairy products though (a trick I learnt awhile back).

Be prepared to queue up be it on a weekday or weekend, and also be prepared to squeeze while enjoying your meal because for a customer base so large, the store is actually relatively tad small!

Ah Loy Thai is an authentic Thai eatery tucked in a rather quiet place- Shaw Towers. I heard many raves about it and finally made my way there one day with my boyfriend. There was a long queue at around 6.30pm and we got our seats about 20 minutes later.

It is a fuss free eatery with little decor and orders are made through the paper menu. We ordered the Tom Yum soup, butter squid, and the pandan chicken to share. All 3 orders were like BINGO! Delicious!. The Tom Yum soup was fiery and perfect together with the white rice. Only gripe was that the ingredients were a tad too little. The butter squid was a unique innovation, it was so tantalizing and i kept taking one after another. It was yummy yet not too oily.

Ah Loy Thai is one of the best thai eatery that is authentic and i defintely recommend anyone who wants to try, to come. Be prepared to queue though. Another reminder, it closes pretty early, like 8pm on Friday, so it will be good to note the timing as my friend got rejected once at 8pm as they do not take in orders from then.

First time trying this restaurant out and I'm sure gonna go back there sometime again!

Never been a great fan of Thai cuisine though I didn't hate it either. So when my friend brought up this restaurant I wasn't really fond of it but I was feeling adventurous, well, and a little too hungry. Glad that we didn't had to wait too long for the dishes to arrive although I found it weird that the rice and drinks didn't come first. A pity we didn't get to try out the Garlic Pork I wanted but the Fried Calamari we ordered instead was really good and goes well with its sauce! The must try would still be the Tom Yum Seafood Soup with it's spices just nice.

Price was within acceptable range for such a restaurant and the tables were cozy. Service is not too bad although we had to go to the counter ourselves to place the order and asked to pay in advance. Minor issues at best.

Enjoyed the meal, ordered three dishes for three people and it was more than enough. A place I would recommend to my friends!

Thai food is delicious, sadly in Singapore, it is tough to find authentic food. In my opinion, true cuisine from The Land of Smiles will never arrive on our shores, but Ah Loy Thai does provide good enough food for us to enjoy.

I particularly enjoyed the mango salad, that apparently is one of their specialities. It has that zesty taste that many other Thai eateries lack, and is that one dish that rendered me a fan. Other than that, food here can be found elsewhere, nothing too special, but nothing poor either,

A good place to have dinner.

Ah Loy Thai has great and affordable Thai food. Personally, I feel that the food is authentic, and it’s definitely one of my go-to places for Thai food.

The food I had was great. My favourite dish was possibly the butter calamari. It might sound terribly unhealthy, but trust me it’s worth every calorie. The calamari is fragrant, tasty and crunchy. The steamed fish with glass noodles is also a great choice, and the fish is cooked well, and has just the right amount of spice.

However, do make a reservation, even on a weekday night as the place gets really crowded during dinner time, and they close pretty early.

Being the food connoisseur I am and that too an ardent fan of Thai food, I always go in search of good Thai eateries with my friends. A place I’d like to introduce to you today is ‘Ah Loy Thai’. Tucked in the heart of Bugis, in the premises of Shaw Towers, the eatery is by far serves the best Thai food for its affordable price range when you compare with Thai Express for an example. My favourite, must-have dishes for every Thai meal would be Tom yam (seafood) soup, Pandan chicken, Sambal kangkong. To finish my meal off with Mango Sticky Rice would be a blessing. Though, I seldom get to enjoy my Mango sticky rice when I’m here as it’s often sold out by the time I order, the Tom yam soup never fails to disappoint. I can assure you your hearty meal would cost you less than $20. However, the one thing that could be improved would be to have longer operating hours. At present, they open from 12-8pm (Mon-Thurs) and 1-7pm (Fri). They are closed on Sundays and public holidays. What a pity! But nonetheless, do pop by ‘Ah Loy Thai’ when you’re craving some spicy food. You’ll never be disappointed. It’s best to have a late lunch here so that you’d have all the luxury of time and hopefully the Mango Sticky Rice won’t be sold out too.
