It used to be our favourite hangout place but not anymore.

The service has gone crappy and so has the food. The last time we were there (the outlet at Central), our food took forever to come and it was so hard to get the attention of the waiting staff that we nearly wanted to walk out. We ordered some unagi pasta, and some pizza with salmon toppings. When our food finally came, we were disappointed that the pasta was not as flavourful as we recalled it to be. What we loved about their pasta way back then was the satisfying portion, and the combination of garlicky flavour and (what we believed was) fish sauce. But this time round, not only did the flavour not match up to expectation, but portions have shrunk as well.

The pizza we had was served cold so that every mouthful I had gave me the feeling that I was chewing on someone's belt. And yet all their pizzas are of the thin-crust variety, so they were supposed to be crisp. That was what we used to love about their pizzas.

We haven't visited Waraku for quite some time now, and we go to Yomenya Goemon to satisfy our cravings for Japanese-themed pastas.

After trying once at Pasta de Waraku, I'm not in a hurry to return any time soon (in fact, I have not stepped into Pasta de Waraku for more than a year). They should just stick to Japanese food and not try to venture into the fusion food.

The pasta wasn't outstanding and comparable to the ones I've had at Pasta Mania, if not worse but the prices are double the amount. I failed to feel al dente in their pastas, the creamy sauce too bland for my liking and the accompanying meat/seafood were mediocre.

Good thing about the restaurant during my visit was the quiet ambiance we're in, with really little people around at that time.

It may not be fair to take my comments based on a single visit so do take them with a pinch of salt. I might return to give them another chance but honestly, I'm not in a hurry to do so.

I like their corn and butter pasta.

I didn't use to like Pasta de Waraku at all, after trying their squid ink pasta and some tomato based pasta that my palate did not take to very kindly. After finding out about their corn and butter pasta, I decided to give Pasta de Waraku a second chance, and I'm glad I did. I like it only for the simple fact that I like corn and I have not heard of a corn pasta before. It may not be to everyone's taste but I feel it's not too bad. Their carbonara, on the other hand, is disappointingly average, and for that kind of price, I would much rather dine elsewhere.
