yummy sushi and salads

Maki-San is a sushi stall located at The Cathay that allows you to customize your own sushi or salad with 80 over ingredients. Customers can choose between brown or regular white rice for their sushi, or choose between salad greens, cold soba and sweet potato glass noodles for their salad base.

Customizing your own sushi sure sounds like fun, however it could turn out pretty nasty if you choose ingredients that don’t go well together! Maki-San started out with their sushi rolls which made them pretty popular, but I always go for the salad bowl. My favorite base ingredient is the sweet potato glass noodles, along with the Sesame dressing. Maki-San’s salad bowls are surprisingly filling, despite the way it sounds and looks.

Maki-San is definitely one of my favorite go-to places for a quick lunch/dinner fix because it is reasonably priced and I’m always left satisfied.

I've been dying to try the sushi at Maki-San ever since I first saw it on Instagram some time back. What's different at Maki-San, you may wonder. Isn't sushi all the same? At Maki-San, you get to customize your food in entirety without getting your hands dirty!

I finally paid them a visit recently and I couldn't be happier! You can either eat-in or takeaway, they don't have that many seats though. All you need to do is check the boxes off according to your whim - you can select either Little San or Mega San, the type of rice and fillings, sprinkles and sauces. Nobody's gonna judge you however bizarre your chosen combination is anyway, so bring on whatever that floats your boat.

Besides customizing your own maki, you can make your own salad too. We tried customizing a salad with cold soba as its base but it didn't turn out as well, probably because my boyfriend and I didn't pick complementary ingredients.

We really enjoyed our maki and will definitely be back for more. The glutton in me will never say no to yummy sushi! And I'll keep the adorable box containing that maki the next time I visit.

I finally tried Maki-San today and got it off my bucket list! Well it is not exactly on my list but it almost felt that way because I have always wanted to try but never got to do so till now.

The long awaited first bite was definitely very satisfactory. What is so enticing about Maki-San is the fact that you get to customize your own masterpiece. I choose brown rice because you do not get to have it at other sushi outlets and the plus points of eating healthy! They have an interesting sauce name Ponzu (some kind of Japanese Citrus Fruit), so I decided to give it a try. The sauce is quite light, so I was not able to taste it but it has a unique fruity scent.

The sushi masters were efficient in delivering the yummy goods, keeping their hungry customers happy. There are also lovely 3D sushi figurines and descriptions on the interior walls of the shop, making the whole outlook very cheerful.

I will not hesitate to go for another round of Maki-San, which is not just a treat to the eyes (with their beautifully designed boxes) but also a treat to the stomach! :D

Maki San is totally affordable and eye catching. I'm a total sucker for customizable food and at Maki San your sushi and salad is totally customizable. The prices are kept pretty low too so I understand why its a hot spot for a lot of students.

The menu has a wide array of options too so that you can rest assured that every time you go to Maki San you'll be able to try something new. But if you're lazy or just can't decide then there's the option to try their ready-made salads and sushi.

There's also the healthy option of getting Brown Rice instead of the regular option which is great for anybody looking out for their health (which I hope is everybody) and the boxes that the sushi is served in are absolutely adorable too!

Most satisfying sushi ever

I have only had Maki-san once but I am already completely and irrevocably in love with their sushi. They are the most satisfying sushi I have ever had, period.

I had the DIY one and it was amazing. I can't remember what ingredients I ordered, but I had the teriyaki sauce and the tempura crunch. I highly recommend the tempura crunch to anyone having their DIY sushi; I think it plays a very huge part in my love for Maki San.

I had the big Maki-san for $9.90 and that was 8 huge sushi rolls for me. It's definitely value-for-money and filling for the stomach! I've heard that the small Maki-san is quite filling as well; they just have lesser essentials.

I think that the most important thing to do when having their DIY sushi is not to pick a weird combination but flavours and essentials that complement one another. But hey, if you're into weird combinations, go ahead.
