Real Food Organic Grocer & Cafe
Real Food is an organic grocer and cafe that serves vegetarian and vegan fare at affordable prices. Their menu includes breakfast items like pancakes, sandwiches and salads, Asian noodle and rice dishes, and a variety of wholesome hot and cold beverages. Food at Real Food is prepared on the spot upon order, and using organic oils and fresh, organic ingredients that are free of preservatives, additives, and trans-fats.
The Can’t Beet This Burger was a lot better, though, as the patty was juicy from the beet and carrots in it. At $12.80, it was worth it and the portions were satisfactory. Although not out of the world, it was refreshing to taste a veggie patty that was not made from chickpeas or tofu for once. Their juices were freshly squeezed and tasted just like a liquid version of the fruit, but slightly overpriced at $6.
Overall, ambience was nice, some dishes were disappointing and others were good. I believe that a truly good restaurant has no such thing as ‘a wrong thing to order’, but unfortunately Real Food didn’t fall into this category.
In case its name isn’t clear, Real Food serves, well, real food. As in organic food but also REALLY GOOD food. You’ll be hard pressed to find a restaurant in Singapore that serves organic food that taste this good.
They don’t just serve your #basic kale salad and quinoa bowl. Their Sweet Pumpkin Sourdough Pancakes are so sinfully sweet you’ll forgive yourself for wondering if you’re actually eating organic food. Pair it with their refreshing Nourish Your Heart Real Serious Smoothie and you’ll have yourself the perfect organic meal.
There is a really large choice of meals, all being vegetarian or vegan, and the menu includes whether they are gluten/ wheat free etc. The service was a bit slow and they charge $0.50 per glass of tap water, bit stingy, but overall I thought that the whole experience was good. I wish that I had asked for no chilli on my Aglio Olio, as the whole thing was a fire in my mouth, which is really a shame as the rest of the meal was really delicious.
Although they admit they’re not the cheapest restaurant in the world, my pasta was only $7.80 and I thought a really reasonable choice. I want to go back and try the burgers, and my only wish is that they started using vegan cheese so that there are more vegan options.
