Kinetics Climbing is Singapore’s newest indoor bouldering and climbing facility.Their clean and spacious rock climbing area is specifically designed for quality bouldering. They also provide a dedicated and safe environment for top roped climbing for both beginners and experienced climbers.
As a climber, what indubitably draws me to Kinetics is their wide range of challenging and unique problems. I immensely enjoy how their problems constantly nudge me to think beyond the conventional, forcing me to employ various climbing techniques in unorthodox ways. Also, the masterful incorporation of volumes into their various boulder problems make climbing here a very pleasurable experience.
My only gripe would be that climbing here would seem a little pricey. For a day pass, guests pay $16 and members pay $11. Then again, you get to stay in the gym for as long as you want to. Moreover, these prices are pretty standard for the various climbing gyms in Singapore.
The website said "$15 for non-members and $10 for members". So we were sold. But that didn't include gear and assistance. So for $33 each, we signed the kids up for a private session which came with an instructor, and climbing equipment for all of them. In total, we had five 5-year olds and one 4-year old.
If you're thinking that little kids can't climb, think again! They got their gear on, listened to instructions and up they went, as naturally as lizards on the living room wall.
Did they enjoy it? Yes. Did they sleep well that night? Oh yes.
As a former amateur climber who's scared of heights (yes, we're a rare species, but we exist), I'll be honest and say that there's no view when you reach the top. Because it's a rock wall in an industrial building. But as a mother of young children, I'm very glad that it's an indoor facility with one entry and exit point, and the wall is situated right next to it, so we can always keep an eye on the door to make sure the kids don't go out for a walk on their own.
Bookings are necessary for private groups, and be punctual. Actually no, be early so that you can get your gear on and enjoy a full 2-hour climbing session. Here's another tip: There's a toilet at the facility. Use it before you get your harness on.
Warning: if you're parent bringing your child for a climb, the urge to belt out Queen's "We will rock you" will be very strong.
Their strict "no climbing without shoes" policy prevents the tiles from getting dirty. The service there is excellent, as I've seen the staff working with many clients before. Newcomers need not feel afraid as the staff are really helpful and friendly.
Kinetics also offer a wide range of boulder problems, fit for both beginners and experienced climbers. They also have many different surfaces such as roofs and slabs. However, their highwall section is quite short, as it is mainly for children.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this climbing gym. Even if you're not a climber, Kinetics is a great place to pick up the sport and learn something new.
I have no complaints about the facilities, except for the fact that the area is pretty small. Usually when my friends and I head down about 7ish, it's already super packed and quite impossible to climb and fall freely. Plus it's about $19, so we would want to make our money's worth by having some good fun by climbing!
Other than that, no complaints! would visit there again definitely. :)
Its cave –like bouldering wall makes it easy for you to look to how people climb and perhaps that is the reason why the climbers who patronise the gym are always so friendly. I would be trying on a problem set there and a climber might come up and offer me a different way of doing it.
It’s inclusive design making climbing an interactive experience for amateurs and experienced climbers alike too. On days when it is busy, there would be middle-aged couples trying out simple problems alongside young, competitive climbers.
Definitely a place for one to try out rock climbing in a safe and comforting environment.
The rock climbing walls have stages where you can go for the fairly easy ones to the difficult ones. My only criticism is that you won't be able to go very high and there are no views for you to see while you are up there cos after all its in an industrial building. Guess it is suitable for those who have a fear of heights but wish to do something fun and challenging. Enjoy!
