I made a special trip down to Helipad because I was wondering what the fuss was about. However, I was terribly disappointed that all Helipad offers is a 360 degree aerial view of Singapore ( and that was what all that hype was on about). Although that alone might be cool enough to compensate for its high entry fare, I would definitely not go there to partying.

Having said that, it is definitely a good place to go to for sightseeing and to chill-out with friends, I took so many awesome photos while I was there. I would not recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good party, but if you have never been there, then it is definitely worth it to make a trip down!

Helipad is closing down very very soon, which is a pity in my opinion. Once a glittery nightclub in the sky, it's now practically a ghost town - in terms of glamour of course.

Yes it is still crowded, but the people you'll find there aren't exactly the creme of the crop. You can find underaged people trying to sneak in - and succeed - almost every day of the week. Fights take place regularly, and although not on the same scale as St. James, they still leave a sour taste in one's mouth.

It's a true pity though. They started off so well, attracting only the well-heeled in society. Now, they are nothing special, and with the closure coming closer each and every day, it seems unlikely that they will change anything about it.

Helipad sounds dangerous and exotic, but unfortunately.

Helipad is, in definition, a landing place for helicopters.

You see, sober me knows my dictionary terms. Drunk me didn't, drunk me just declared, "Zirca is full, let's go to Helipad! whoa Helipad sounds really cool. and it's 5 floors up?! SO I CAN LITERALLY GET HIGH?!" and other nonsensical outbursts so my friends caved in.

As it turned out, I was the scapegoat for all their misfortunes that night.

While ladies managed to get in free, guys had to pay a $23, not too bad for a club. But the place itself was quite a let-down. The dance-floor was terribly small and the lights were predictable and repetitive.

There were no smoke jets (very common in zirca and zouk) or a change of lighting. The drinks weren't too bad but no point getting high only to realize the dance-floor is full. The music got gradually stale. It gave me the overall feel of having all my senses dulled. Nothing too exciting nothing too boring. Just manageable.

So of course, by the time drunk me sobered up, it was a sign to my friends that they can start blaming me for my choice of the club for that night and it was me graciously accepting them accusations and loudly exclaiming my lack of apology.

Now even drunk me steers away from Helipad.

Going to the Helipad for some partying sounded exciting and dangerous because of the name itself. However, I was not impressed with the clubbing scene there. I managed to get in for free because my friend knew someone there, but once I was in, I could only stay for an hour tops before I had to leave as the music was average and the crowd was just...average as well.

There is a certain feel of exclusivity as it takes a few maneuvers to actually locate the club, but I was not won over by the unenthusiastic dancing and trance music blasting as night turned to morning. There is an outdoor bar area upstairs for people to chill, relax and talk whilst overlooking the silhouette of Clarke Quay, which is definitely more pleasurable than the interior of Helipad.

Helipad gives a connotation that is is somewhere very high up on a building for one to enjoy a great view and alcohol. It didn't meet the full aspects of my standards though.

Getting to helipad is sort of a breeze. Located at Central Shopping Centre above Clarke Quay MRT, it seems pretty easy to find it. Nonetheless, it is only accessible from the car-park at level 5 so if you are going on foot take the lift or the escalator to level 5 and sure enough you will see it with not much difficulty there after.

The concept of the bar/club rocks. With a elevator like door, it gives you the feeling that you are going up to somewhere fun. The lighting when you enter are also motion-sensor triggered, making every entrance when you are sober very appealing. Unlike most clubs, the dance-floor is a huge disappointment with a space barely big enough for 30 people side to side. The DJ deck was a little bit too cramp was what I found out from the guest DJ but the equipment here rocked compared to other clubs.

The drinks here are decent, paired with a decent service if the night is either still young or the crowd is non-existent. The view was a camera-worthy, but not worth the trouble. If you are not tolerant of people smoking that please note that the view can only be seen from the smoking area outside the club.

This business had the mindset of something great but falls short due to its space constraints and service standards. Improving on the two in a highly expensive place like Clarke Quay would be a mammoth task, but I guess I will wait for something great to come sweep me away.
