Tracy Maureen Perez wins Head to Head Challenge

More than her eloquence, Miss World Philippines 2021 Tracy Maureen Perez showed the world her beautiful heart during Miss World 2021’s Head to Head Challenge when she presented her Beauty with a Purpose project to help single mothers like her late mom.

The short speeches she made for the challenge on 12th December at the Capitolio de Puerto Rico made her one of the eight winners of the challenge and advanced her to the Final 30.

For the first part of the challenge, Perez introduced her Beauty with a Purpose project, “Para Kay Nanay” (“For My Mother”), dedicated to her late mother and the single mothers in her community in Cordova, Cebu.

“We talk so much about women empowerment, so why don’t we start with empowering our mothers, most especially those who go through so much [sic] difficulties having to raise their families all on their own,” Perez explained. “They are not given the support. They are not given the help that they need.”

She said that she aims to equip single mothers with computer skills so they would be able to find jobs and build a good life for their families.

“That is what I want for them, that is what they deserve, and that is what I would’ve wanted for my mom, too, if she was still here,” the Filipina Miss World 2021 candidate emphasized, which touched the hearts of many pageant fans.

Perez’s late mother, Chona Perez, passed away when Perez was 17. Chona Perez was also a beauty queen and a Binibining Pilipinas candidate in 1979.

Perez cited that there are 2,000 single mothers in her community in Cordova, Cebu.

“Imagine how much more there are in the rest of the world,” the beauty queen urged the panel of judges.

With her “Para Kay Nanay” project, Perez aims to provide single mothers with a safe space and a community where they would feel loved and understood. More than these nonphysical forms of support, however, the beauty queen also made sure that her project helps single mothers build a better future for their families.

“We give them continuous BPO (business process outsourcing) and computer training that they can use to equip them with skills to land better opportunities out there especially amidst the pandemic,” she added.

Tracy Maureen Perez to compete on 16th December

For the second round of the Head to Head Challenge, Perez shared how she fell in love with Puerto Rico the moment she stepped into the airport when a Puerto Rican woman helped her.

Her eloquence and the heart she put in her speeches ultimately secured Tracy Maureen Perez a spot in the Final 30. Tracy Maureen Perez will be competing at the 70th Miss World pageant on 16th December, so we’ll be looking forward to the rest of her pageant journey.
