Muntinlupa’s Dade’s Taiyaki
Japanese street foods are indeed a colorful variety of flavors that reflect the vibrant cultures of the Land of the Rising Sun. One of their most beloved quintessential snacks, for instance, is the taiyaki.
A cake shaped like a sea bream fish, taiyaki is usually filled with sweetened red bean paste. Because of its charming shape and sweet flavor, it’s been a favorite in Japan, and fortunately, just along the streets of Muntinlupa, Dade’s Taiyaki is here to satisfy our cravings for the dessert.
The stall has been around for 14 years

It’s not easy to find taiyaki around the Philippines, but the humble stall of Dade’s Taiyaki, managed by a Japanese family, has been around for 14 years serving the locals of Muntinlupa.

Mr. Dade has been making the shop’s taiyaki in monggo (red bean), custard, and chocolate flavors. You can have one piece of the delicacy starting at only P12 (~USD0.24), a very affordable price indeed considering the cake’s uniqueness in our local markets.
They accept deliveries

If you want to drop by the stall, do so as soon as they open in the morning. But if you can’t make it in person, you can contact them for delivery.

Even with its humble size, Dade’s Taiyaki has actually been recognized by the Japanese press, as shown by a 2010 news clip posted on Facebook by Mr. Dade’s daughter, Kia Nakasone.
In the same post, Nakasone also shared that the shop has received many franchise offers and TV shows guesting requests, but her dad had declined them. “There’s so many franchise offers and tv shows you rejected, because you never wanted to be rich and famous. All you want is just to live a happy & simple life,” she said in a 2017 Facebook post celebrating the stall’s 10th year.
Indeed, Dade’s Taiyaki wouldn’t have made this far without the dedication of Mr. Dade and his family. Kudos to the shop around the corner satisfying our palate with Japanese street food goodness.
