This cruise was included in my plans to visit Jonker Street in Malacca. I had initially thought that this would be a pretty big waste of time because we all know the quality of our rivers in the country. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised to see the waters weren't as bad as I initially thought and after driving nearly 8 hours from Penang, I was happy to take the chance to rest and enjoy the scenery.
The cruise turned out to be a rather enjoyable one and i would go on the ride again in an instant.
The Melaka River Cruise is a ride that is pretty fun and well worth it if you're looking to get to know some sights in Melaka. The boat itself is pretty comfortable and well spaced so you don't have to worry about being claustrophobic. Surprisingly enough for a river in Malaysia, it didn't seem all too dirty.
I could've guessed that the buildings on the riverside were decorated to ensure that the people riding this would enjoy the experience instead of seeing eyesores all over. I felt that it was fun and my niece seems pretty happy too as she was pretty hyper for the entire ride. A great ride for people who are unfamiliar with Melaka.
I went on the ride during night time and was surprised to see that everything looks more beautiful at night. The local houses were adorned with colourful lights and from afar, they look like a miniature of Malay houses.
I was more surprised to notice that the riverside is well kept and very clean. With a few bars, shops and nice buildings along the river, the cruise will be a great way for you to view Melaka from the river. The view is nice with some murals painted on the walls.
The ride itself was a very enjoyable one. With comfortable and clean boat, I feel at ease enjoying the cruise and the beautiful sightings.
The river surprised me, it used to be muddy and stink. Few years back before they clean up the river, no one really cares about the river and it was not an attraction at all. If you are new in Melacca, I would suggest you to take the cruise. While enjoying the unique scene of houses along the river, it will give you an overall picture of place to visit in the town. As for me, the cruise helps me discover some hidden gems along the river where we traced back after the cruise. We end up having a good dinner in a small restaurant with good environment and atmosphere along the river side.
I went on an evening cruise so as to enjoy the colorful river bank during the sunset. The houses and shops on the riverbank are amazing and buildings along the river are brightly coloured and covered in huge murals. This river cruise really helps in seeing the entirety of Melaka in a single trip and should not be missed by first-timers to this beautiful city.
However, the internal ambience of the cruise was spoilt due to the loud piped-in music which spoilt any chance of conversation and the overcrowding of the boat. Moreover, the sitting arrangement is basically an invasion of your personal space.
Melaka River Cruise is one of the more interesting ways to sight-see Melaka.
I decided to take the cruise to see what the hype is all about as in my mind, Melaka River is well known for its muddy water and dirty banks. I was surprised that the water is cleaner and doesn't stink like it used to.
The banks are now nicely decorated with lights and brick sidewalks. Along the way I could see many houses with old architecture and as we approach the other end, there's a glimpse of Jonker Walk, the giant water wheel and St Paul's Hill.
In a nutshell, it was a fun experience but maybe a bit too long.(ride lasts about 45 minutes)
