Sunway Pyramid, the Egyptian-inspired pyramid with an eye-catching lion standing guard at the entrance, was the first themed shopping and entertainment mall in Malaysia. It was opened in 1997 and has undergone a magnificent expansion and refurbishment that costs RM550 million, into a new shopping kingdom that boasts 4 million square feet of retail extravaganza. There are 5 shopping precincts – Fashion Central, Oasis Boulevard, Asian Avenue, Marrakesh and Kidz Zone, with a total of more than 800 specialty outlets.

Ever since the new wing of Sunway Pyramid was built, the crowds also seem to grow larger. It is also one of the shopping malls in Malaysia to have an indoor ice-skating rink, a huge theme park and water park at Sunway Lagoon.
I personally prefer to shop here over other shopping malls as it offers a variety of fashion outlets offering all kinds of brands ranging from lower- to higher-priced, such as Cotton On, Kitschen, Brands Outlet, Forever 21, Topshop etc. There are also a lot of small stores located in Asian Avenue where you can get some good and cheap stuff.
And I really like the carpark system in Sunway Pyramid which has red/green light indicators to help shoppers looking for available parking bays. This has definitely made my life so much easier.
I used to come here often and I was never bored of this place. There’s always something nice to see, such as the frequent performances and events or just looking at people ice-skate, even at midnight. One can never get lost in this mall as there are directories everywhere. The toilets are very clean too (I am a hygiene-freak).
There are so many shops here and new shops keep popping up which keeps shoppers excited. There are tons of affordable clothes too at Asia Avenue. I really enjoy just window shopping at Sunway Pyramid which helps to ease my mind.
Sunway Pyramid really is one of the few shopping mall that seems to offer a whole lot of everything else besides shopping. From dining to leisurely skate in the rink of ice, they seem to have it all.
Personally, I came here only for the ice skating rink since it was my first time and I really wanted to try it. Well, sufficient to say, it was something like rollerblading, without the concrete pavements to hit your bottom or your face when you fall. It's really a great place if you want to do something fun once in a while. However, the rink does gets crowded on weekend. It's lively, but the crowd are kind of suffocating the last time I was there. If you're waiting for your parents or cousin to finish shopping, do try it out. You will definitely like it!
This is the kind of shopping mall you would see filled with students, either university level or school students. I know because I am one of them. I love this place because I can always seem to find something to do here. And if you have been here before, I am pretty sure the number one thing that will be in your mind in the list of things you can do is ice-skating.
Yes, ice-skating in Malaysia is real. And yes, I did fall down about 15-16 time before I managed to able to stand. The only bad experience I ever had in the ice-skating rink was due to an inconsiderate skater but other than that, you can just skate for a mere RM7 during the weekdays...assuming you have your own gloves and socks of course.
Sunway Pyramid offers a varied choice of entertainment, none of them involving shopping. It is always preferable to go on a weekday, as the mall is crowded during weekends. There are buses that travel to Sunway, so getting there was not much of a hassle.
My time was most spent at the ice-skating rink, trying to find my balance as I wobbled along the rink with the tensed look of a beginner. Falling down was inevitable. The price paid per person on a weekday is only RM15, Worth it.
The bowling alley is also a fun place to visit if you have pals to play with you. There is also an archery range and a newly-built laser tag arena.
Shopping malls are normally rated by how many stores they have. Sunway Pyramid is a little bit different to me. Yes, it has many many stores that can be suitable to people of all ages and gender. The stores are all neatly placed in specific "zones", If you need to eat, you go to the "Green zone",etc. That was unique.
The unsung heroes that make my experience special are the people behind the concierge counter. During my first few visits, I would get hopelessly lost. I felt I had better luck finding a needle in a haystack as compared to finding the store I wanted in the mall. I approached the smiling lady behind the counter who asked what store I was looking for. She then pointed to me the direction and even told me which was the correct route to take, shortcut, etc.
This sort of A-Class service is what I consider unique to the mall and I am so glad they maintained their standards. I'm sure they help many shoppers every day and they are not even appreciated.
A big cheers to you, the efficient and professional Concierge team of Sunway Pyramid!!
Every time I'm in KL, this is always my destination. I simply love that I can conveniently find everything I like in this mall. The range of restaurants they have, from middle east cuisine to western to Chinese, all attract me. To name a few, there is Bubba Gump, TGi Fridays, Tarbush, Manhattan Fish Market and so on.
There's also a skating rink, cinema and lots of shopping options. You can also do your grocery shopping there. For tourists, the Sunway Lagoon theme park is just next door. A great way to spend your day then have a meal and do some shopping in the mall.
Being a mom, the first thing I look for in a shopping mall is nursing rooms. And yes, Sunway Pyramid has never failed me. Toilets are clean and nursing rooms are easily accessible, nicely decorated too!
Plenty of outlets here if you want to shop or simply go window shopping. The dining selection is variety. I always like the cozy feeling it brings, and have listed this as one of my favorite neighborhood mall.
During Malaysia's major celebrated festivals, they'll have this massive and excessive decoration and not to mention, beautiful! Colorful lanterns hanged along the street according to each festival are a must, definitely a pretty sight especially during night time.
What I like about Sunway Pyramid is that it has something for everyone.
With the opening of the new wing, there are more places to shop at in addition to the old wing. There's an ice skating rink there which is fun to watch whenever you're tired of walking.
There are lots of restaurants around but I usually head up to Wendy's as it's pretty rare and at other time's I'll go to my favorite spots like Tony Romas and Hui Lau Shan for dessert.
Besides that finding a parking spot is comparably easier to other places like Midvalley.
Currently Sunway Pyramid is the usual hangout place. Great parking system, they even hired extra guards that ride Segway to patrol the carpark. One of the guards even guides me to a parking spot. There are varieties of food in Sunway, from Japan cuisine, Western, Taiwan cuisine to local food, there is even an authentic Korean food! (The boss is a Korean!) Not to mention the there are numerous of fashion outlets in the mall. You can get high-end expensive brand while bargain and cheaper cloths at Asia Avenue. Personally, I do almost everything in Sunway, grocery, hairdo, dinner and movie.
