I enjoy eating here due to the grilling experience. I went to BarBQ Plaza with my friends a couple of times in the past and the set lunch was affordable, around RM10 per person. I like the fact that the set included both meat and vegetables as usually any food that comes in set do not have vegetables.
Of course, rice, drinks and sauce were included in the set. The sauce mixed with cili padi and garlic complemented the taste of the meat very well. I felt full with the set lunch but I think it is not enough for the average guy.
One of the main reasons why I love dining at this place is because of the hot pot concept that they are using. Why? Because a lot of animes I watch, especially Gintama, had the same concept of putting raw food into hot pots and eating them afterwards.
I was here with my family in 2011 and I was pretty much stuck on the meat most of the time. I had a thing for red meat that made me temporarily carnivorous. Don't worry, I don't eat people. They did serve pork but I didn't mind, as long as I don't eat it. You might want to bring people with big appetites or come with at least 5 people though. Overall, a pleasant and unique experience.
The concept of eating in this restaurant resembles that of a mess hall. Where people congregate on a table and share food and meat by sharing the same fire. It promtoes a sense of "community based" eating where youwon't be eating your own food alone but also sharing it with everyone else.
I star toff by selecting certain sets such as the vegetable set and the meat set so we have a good variety of meat and vege to choose from. NExt we would ask everyone on the table what meat or vege they would like to have first and put them into the scalding hot golden cooking pan. We would then talk as we wait for the food to cook and it's a very enjoyable dining experience. Take it as a "private buffet" between you and your friends only.
Especially great when you have more than 6 people on the table because it gets really noisy at that time with people all talking over each other. Very fun.
The taste of the food is good but not for all outlets. I had been visiting different outlets such as Bukit Tinggi Jusco Klang, IOI Mall, Sunway Pyramid and Times Square. Sometimes I felt so disappointed because I wonder why there isn't good Quality Control among all the outlets to serve customers with highest quality of food. Especially the one in Times Square, the vegetable looks not fresh at all, some had turn into dark color. The meat also taste weird, hence, I think it is not fresh.
The outlet in Sunway pyramid and Bukit Tinggi Jusco taste great and it is fresh to consume. The portion is little bit too small and the price is quite high too. RM39++ for a supreme set (mixture of pork slice, prawn and chicken slices). But overall I will still visit BBQ plaza whenever I think of Grilled steamboat dish.
I have only been to Bar.B.Q Plaza once, during a birthday celebration for my friend last year.
In this place, customers are able to experience self-grilling unlike Korean BBQ restaurants such as DaoRae where the servant will do the grilling part for you instead. This is one thing I like about Bar.B.Q Plaza.
Now, I would like to explain the reasons why I will never visit this restaurant again. Firstly, the price is actually quite expensive which can cost more than RM20 per pax, and the main point is I don’t feel full after eating which I think it is not worth the price paid. Also, there is a big contrast between the portions of the meats and vegetables – too much of vegetables and too little of meats.
Went to several branches because my friends like it- as there are no other retail BBQ restaurants I know of, (except for more expensive Korean BBQ), BarBQ plaza is often my choice when I crave for grilled meats.
One thing I disliked though, is the heavy pork smell in the air when you enter the premise, unavoidable, and you'll get used to it once you start eating, but still unpleasant all the same.
But their garlic fried rice is awesome, tastes great in my opinion, (Sakae Sushi's tastes better with a more expensive price tag because salmon's included) and I usually have two bowls in one sitting. Their fish and pork are decent but not bad.
I love dining in this place, whenever the branch is, with my friends. I enjoy slowly cooking the meat and vege while chatting and catching up with each other. Usually my friends and I will order the economy pork set as I do not eat beef and upgrade the rice to garlic fried rice which tastes way better than normal white rice when eaten together with the meat and their special sauce. Although it is recommended to add all three ingredients (lime, garlic and chillies) into the brown color sauce, I always only add lime into it and it still tasted great.
Also I seriously love their enoki mushroom wrapped in bacon and soft shell crab with oats. They are quite expensive but really worth it. Now I am hungry just thinking about it .....
This is a great place to have gathering especially if you are BBQ lover. You will have a grill set on top of the gas stove. There is groove at side of the grill set where they will fill up with cabbage soup, so you can boil your meat if you don’t like to grill it. The set is great for meat lover and usually I will go for at least two sets, one is mix meat and another set of lard. They also are giving unlimited cabbage which is good when you have so many grill foods. Good ambience where you can talk to you family while preparing the food. One last thing, try out the garlic rice! You will not regret.
A few months after the grand opening of BarBQ Plaza in Melaka, I decided to give it a try.
I ordered a set for 2 with lamb and pork. Sure, it was fun grilling the food but the disappointment starts when you start to eat. The meat was sliced too thin and if I was blindfolded I couldn't tell what I was eating
As a result, me and my friend mixed the meats up because it all tasted the same. The secret peanut sauce is nothing special.
I don’t know whether I was supposed to laugh or be pissed off.
