I think Pappa Rich is not bad for a café as there are some filling food which I am satisfied with such as the asam laksa and kuey tiow (though the soup obviously tastes very much like readymade stock plus water). I like the soy bean curd pudding too, which not many cafes serve.
The downside is that the price is slightly expensive so I do not come here often, thus I do not have the opportunity to try many different kinds of food. My mum does not like the coffee here, but then she is quite picky about coffee.
I have never been to Pappa Rich much due to the fact that i always THOUGHT that it was pricey. I usually go there with a friend when we had nothing better to do and no other place to go. So you can definitely imagine me in a spot where looking at the menu isn't exactly helping much when trying to figure out what to order.
For some strange reason, the Pappa Mocha + Ice Cream drink caught my eye and i just ordered it. At RM9.90, I'd definitely say that it is worth every cent as the taste definitely beats anything they have on the menu at starbucks and coffee bean. Furthermore, the glass isn't small and there isn't much ice which means there's more mocha to drink. Would definitely come here again!
The service was awful. The management hired foreigners who couldnt speak english, so we had a communication problem. In the end, I have to point the food I wanted in the menu then only can they understand.
The coffee was small, and It didnt even taste like coffee. I was wondering if they know how to make one. We also had to wait very long until the food arrived, despite not having that many customers. The food was also not satisfying, and the price does not make up for it. This restaurant is like a bad copy of Old Town coffee restaurant.
I love this restaurant for a variety of reasons. Cozy atmosphere, good food and fast service. Price is very reasonable, with its typical Nyonya cafe menus, I guess ones will have a choice of everything for their plate.
Being a favorite eatery, I love this plate for its delicious fried kuey teow, porridge and toasts. I love the fact that they have their bread counter where each bread were baked fresh from the oven.
As a cafe, this place has its charm. Dimmed lights, nice coffee aroma and good food, Pappa Rich is definitely a good meet-up and hang out place for everybody.
The outlet I visited had very poor service. The waiters employed were all foreigners who couldn't speak English which made the simple process of ordering, a disastrous event. Only the manager who was Malaysian, could speak English.
Food wise, I personally feel their choices of food is very limited to the typical Nasi Lemak and other kampung style food. The wait was long even when there are few customers in the cafe. It feels like a gamble each time I go because I don't know what I would expect. Truly a let-down
One of my favorite breakfast spots, I’d usually have the porridge here. The porridge is full of flavor and after a sprinkle of salt and pepper it’s good to go. I would also order the soft boiled eggs here and add some into the porridge and the rest for later.
Though not a usual breakfast drink, I’d usually have the teh tarik but instead of having it hot, I have it cold, it’s just a personal preference.
The non-breakfast menu item I once tried was the roti canai with ice cream as dessert, but the price is not justified.
Overall, a good place.
I prefer their soya bean with cendol. Even though their soya bean tastes like milk powder, I still love the mixture of cendol with soya bean, especially from Papa Rich. It is creamy, milky and sweet. Their nasi lemak is a good choice if you are rushing as they serve nasi lemak faster than noodles. I think is because their nasi lemak is ready made and ready to serve anytime. Anyhow, their nasi lemak is not a bad choice, the menu stated curry chicken which quite disappointing to me as I prefer rendang chicken. Once they served me the nasi lemak, I am quite surprise that their curry chicken is actually rendang chicken! The chicken is well cooked and portion is big, and it worth RM15 for a plate of nasi lemak with a big drumstick.
I got to know about Pappa Rich after Old Town started disappointing me- and Pappa Rich is indeed a better alternative for my kopitiam sessions. Although beverages-wise, Old Town's white coffee and chocolate may taste better than Pappa Rich's coffee and Milo, Pappa Rich's food taste a lot better.
I like the Char Kuey Teow and Curry Mee in Pappa Rich; they're both steaming hot and delicious, and this eatery gives me the feeling that it is cleaner and more hygienic compared to other kopitiam, so I am willing to pay for the higher price. I especially like the Gardens' branch for their food and service.
